Here are a couple of very nice ads dated 1929 posted on the HMCI facebook page. They are printed in Gujarati, I am adding a rough translation

The first is a treat - I hadn't even heard of the brand Elcar before, a quick google said it derived from the Elkhart. Its highly unlikely any survive in India. The price was a princely Rs.4200

ELCAR
with the Shock-less Chassis

"ELCAR" machine parts are manufactured in such a way that the bumps of rough roads and the noise don't affect car frame and the "body".

UNO CONTROL -

In this car "UNO CONTROL" has been arranged in such a way that on your fingertip, in the centre of the steering wheel, when you pull the button, the car "starts". When you turn the knob the light is switched on, when you press the button, you can hear the horn.

At first sight, you will be attracted and find novelty in this likeable and beautifully shaped car.

This "ELCAR" car is ultramodern, latest style and with facilities.

We invite you to once visit our grand showroom and see the same.

Price: Rs.4200/- and more than that our 26 models

The other is an ad for the Chevrolet's new Six, with prices ranging from Rs. 2595 to 3645.

A few years ago a Maharaja purchased an Adler Cabrio. In the file this price list was found. Not cheap for those times for sure. But Adler did sell a lot of cars in the 1930's, and there must be more than 20 survivors.

Adler Motorcycles were also sold in India, how many survive?

I also had an Adler typewriter, maybe it's still around.

Cheers harit

Old documents can be a wealth of information - take the case of this original invoice carefully preserved by the original owners here (Our 1954 DeSoto Diplomat)

The car cost Rs. 19,400 brand new, and ordered in the dual tone colour combination of Princess Grey over Live Oak Green.
