It was good fun spending a weekday morning at the Heritage Transport Museum last week. Some interesting decor, some beautiful paintings, and of course the cars - as well as a lot of other memorabilia to do with transport by land, sea and air.

Some great ideas - handlebars as door handles...

...bus mirrors in the toilet...

...a Morris Minor for the ticket counter...

...and bulb-shaped light fixtures on the ceiling. I'd like to buy a few too!

You're advised not to use flash photography, but some of the sections are a lot darker than an average camera can handle without flash.

I visited this museum last Saturday as well. I must say it is the nicest Indian museum I've seen so far. Very well thought through, really well curated, with a nice collection of cars and other car memorables. Definitely worth a visit.

This is a 1947 Nash.

Quote:
Charles W. Nash was a former President of General Motors who wanted to build his own cars. He and a partner purchased the Thomas B. Jeffery Company of Kenosha, the maker of the Rambler of the early 1900s, in 1916. The Nash, Rambler, and Ambassador names would remain entwined through many decades and corporate mergers. For 1947 Nash sold 113,115 cars, good for 10th places in sales

If I might point out, this is not a 1100D (which stood for Delight, and it had the 'padmini' shape that we're all familiar with) but a '54-55 1100-103, known as the 'Millecento.'

My apologies, and I stand corrected. There was one such car (Millecento) in the family, but somehow I keep getting mixed up between the Millecento and the 1100D - but then I am quite useless at identifying cars of yesteryears at all!

Received a communique from the Heritage Transport Museum to come there and enjoy kite flying with the family over the Independence Day extended weekend (15-17 August 2014). Kites and string would be provided by the museum on purchase of entry tickets.

Another photograph from the Heritage Transport Museum, courtesy Facebook.

One the left is a 1938 Ford v8 tourer, which appears to be Mr. Thakral's personal favourite, since you'll find him posing mostly with it. It even appears on the Independence Day brochure (posted above).

What you see on the right is a 1946 Ford Woody which we restored in 2002-03. I had driven it overnight from Allahabad to Delhi (to Mr. Ranjit Malik's farmhouse at Chattarpur) in March 2003. It happens to be one of Mr. Thakral's early acquisitions. He used to have a 1938 Ford Woody too, but I have not been able to locate it in the pictures from the Museum.

The Heritage Transport Museum in Gurgaon along with its Founder and Managing Trustee Tarun Thakral have been featured in the GQ magazine October 2014 issue. There are 4 pages, starting from page 189 and show the wide variety of exhibits.
For those who have not been able to visit the Museum, this gives an insight as to what to expect.

Cheers harit
