Is there any specific reason the 118NE and Contessa is not on this? 118NE was an Italian car with a Japanese engine from the successful Sunny, so it has a right to stay here. There was another made on the 118NE called the VICEROY (god knows what was different in that)

Great find Shyam. I believe the Companion is a Station Wagon version right?

Yup it is! I do like this car.....however the Herald Companion, although comparitively short-lived, looks much better for sure!

Yup, refer to this pic. I remember when this ad first came out, I'd spend hours trying to catch it again to get a better look at the car.

yes buddy, apart from ford, chevvy which others mentioned one car brand which nobody mentioned is studebaker

Studebaker, The 1946-49 Champion and the 1956-59 Commander and President were all assembled in India. The bullet-nosed 1950 Champion was very striking. Among the rare ones are the two-door Conestoga (1954-56) coupe and stationwagons.

here is the starting of the article, i think most of you might have already knew about the article:

and the contessa was victor vaxhual!!!

i dont think contessa can make into this list, as it is junked by vaxhaul and later it was introduced in india and apart from the look of the car, i doubt anything else matches.

even the fiat 118NE cannot be considered.

both cars are not known as the vintage nor classics.

P.S. conti is my favourite though

Uh, raj you seem to've gone in reverse with the name here - it was Vauxhall Victor......that reminds me- I see an abandoned early 50s Vauxhall Wyvern at the paint garage here where I'm getting my car done up....I guess this also was Indian-assembled......?
Also I read in an issue of Auto-India that API (Automobile Products of India, of Lambretta fame!) were first assembling Hillman Minx cars before moving onto scooter/3-whlr production.......anyone knows if its true?

Fiat 124 not a classic after all those funny Lada jokes!!

It was an extremely popular car made in different brands from FSO to SEAT to Lada

Uh, nope.....sorry never heard of it....neither the car nor basanth theatre (prob'ly because I've seldom been to theatres! ).....I did hear about a Herald at a garage in tat area that nearly got done up & ended up being scrapped!
And I guess I should take this oppurtunity to share this news- I'm very close to saving another Indian built/assembled classic from the claws (or rather chisels) of the scrapwalas....suspense until tomorrow!

I think he was referring to the 118NE not the 124 (yes that would be classic now)......as the former's too recent a model & just a mere clone of the latter.....same in case of the padmini....

and yeah!,
WE includes karlos.
also there are a couple of classics near baghlingampally electricity office in a workshop, i always wanted to identify those, but dont have much knowledge about calssics, also there is another car, may be from 80's. So we can also be there and you can educate me about those. also we can look whether they are worth anything for our friend suren181, who is on lookout for a classic.

hey all the best buddy, for your next acquisition. will be waiting for the news. Oh! btw, do you mind if i came to see what that is??

raj.
