Are you referring to the Prefect? It might be, although the owner(?) would deny it outright at first! 'might atleast serve as a good parts donor if not anything else. Would you want me to enquire when I go there next?

Yes i am.The car seems to have a lot of original stuff on it so might be worth restoring or if someone has a similar car it would be a good car as a donor as all meters etc are intact.Does it have the original engine or has it been changed or removed?

Incidentally, my dad's first car was a similar one in Black, APY 9151 or thereabouts. He'd bought it in 1976 from his brother (because he got it cheap and on "installment" basis! ) and sold it in 1980, a year before I was born. His car too, after being bought by the next owner, met a similar fate, or even worse(?), with wild trees growing out through the seats- it had a roll-back sunroof (and if you look closely at this car, you'll find that it too had one, later welded shut), which tore off and thereafter the seat-covers, exposing the coconut-coir padding that accumulated mud and thereby, wild fauna!
I never got to see that car though. No proper photos of it at home either!
How much would it cost to restore this beauty and how long?

It depends on what kind of work you want to get done on it.If you are looking at the money then you would get an average car but if you are not looking at money then you can get it done to perfection.Time is something that depends again on the quality and standards of work you want.So you need to be clear on what you want and how much are you willing to spend on it.

I would see this Mk 1 Amby at a Police Station in Pune for years. A couple of weeks ago it was pulled over to the side of the road nearby, with many garages alongside. I suppose it is to be broken shortly.

The front used to sport an MRX regn plate, the rear seems to have traces of two plates. Maybe thats why it was in the impound

Can anyone help me with the co-ordinates of the KA-19 Merc (with the amby grille).

I'd like to take a serious shot at restoring this.

When I spotted this car, the garage owner wasnt there since it was quite early in the morning. I am not very familiar with the exact location but will find out tomorrow from my colleague who was along with me. If some one could go there personally and meet the garage owner, I will PM the details.

This car had been photo'd and put up here earlier too. 'wonder why it has the sheet on the roof under the carrier? Could it have the sun-roof intact?

Uh, sorry Saurabh, but not quite "All" original!

The hubcaps are missing, as are the bumperguards and the rear hatch too (below the boot.)
The hubs don't seem original to me ('have too long axle stubs at the centre)

BUT if all these parts can be procured, this car can and will become 100% original.

Incidentally, I think this is the first and only Prefect I'm seeing with the "Prefect" badge on the bootlid intact- 'remember my dad telling me his car too had such a badge on the rear. A pity again, that we have no proper pics. of the car in our photo albums!

Actually I would think they are original - I always remember noticing that about Prefects.
