Is it this type of merc Mercedes Benz 230 Cabrio B 1938
So let me come to Bandra and lets meet him. He can check the registration number.
Personality was, I believe, a certain Madhu Trehan, journalist? That is what was mentioned at that time, I do not know the Delhi social circuit. Any Dilliwalla can comment? As you can see, this picture was taken at a Statesman Rally in Delhi in the 1990's.
BTW, there is a similar car in Goa, but that did NOT come from Bandra.

It could have looked similar to this.
Or the MRF registered car posted by Karl in the nostalgic thread many years ago.
Cheers harit

Today Manish and me had a look at this Select along with Souvik. Car seemed pretty ok, but not sure if its for sale.

Manish was lucky to get the missing trims needed for his Select for free, well almost (removed the trims with permission of the car's caretaker) ..

Souvik: Thanks a lot for showing the cars to us in spite of having your sem exams at noon.

Default Super-select bites the dust!

A sad "lost case" of a reasonably complete Super-select that's ended up in queue to be scrapped the coming tuesday!! :(

This car has a lot of original parts intact, a real shame!

The grab-handles (roof-sides, interior), horn-button, rims and a few other parts have already been salvaged by a fellow tbhpian.

Question to fiat gurus: are those rear interior lights original? They are there on either side inside this car, never seen them on any fiat 1100s before!

Stanher though I am no Fiat guru thats not the original rear interior light. These used to be at the same angle as in this car and the shape would be rectangular (not exactly) with convex longer sides and straight smaller sides.

I thought so! Yes, to put it more conveniently in present-day terminology, the exact shape as the "start" and "stop" boxes in a computer flow-chart!

Going by the pitifully meagre appearances of this little model in street photos of Europe back then, one would conclude that, amongst the VW Beetles and Renaults, Alfa Romeos and Ponton Mercedes of the time, the plain little 1,089 cc four-cylinder Fiat came and went silently unloved in the three years before and after 1960.

However in India, one family built and sold them for four long decades, build quality and sheet metal progressively deteriorating as the years panned by.

What remain today in volumes of any significance, are the dented black and yellow CNG-breathing relics of Bombay's past.

Would the original Italian designer have imagined in his wildest dreams, the resurrection of interest, that would awaken in India half a century later, as aficionados ferret out these tired heaps, all over the country, lovingly doting on each little bauble -- a door handle, an ashtray and a horn button here, a parking light and a carburetor there scrupulously rescuing them from the scrap-ironmonger -- for some restoration project in the foggy future ?

Well said Ram.

These two cars are waiting for restoration in a compound near M.G road.
