Sad to see a rusted Standard 8 in Pune, probably circa ~1955.

This one sir, is a celebrity!!

This one has been posted in this thread umpteen times.

Later on, this happened : http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/post-w...ndard-8-a.html (Restoration of standard 8)

Of course, as is evident, nothing happened. The car still stands in the same position.

Used to see it frequently.

Hi, A friend has bought a standard 8 , and to bring it back to life he needs a donor car or atleast a body. Front Fenders and Bonnent gone to far for repair, has the sliding glasses on the doors and also the rear folding seat to access the boot. Any help in this matter will help resurrected the car.

One of my late relatives had a Standard 8/10 (cant remember) in a similar colour. He was a bit of a tinkerer. He dabbled (with much success) in clocks/watches, valve radios, photography and cars, among other things. I remember he had fitted an auxiliary fuel tank on the bulkhead for some efficiency test. I wonder if this was his car at some point in time.

Kind regards

Aditya

Possibly the same car? Shot this in 2004, was probably scrapped soon after.

All I could recognize is the Lambretta Petrol tank, everything else is an alien item to me.

Hard to tell, the car in your picture appears red. I saw the car in the mid 90's and it was in running condition then. If I remember right the auxiliary 'tank' was an inverted plastic bottle of sorts. He told me that he wanted to know the exact mileage. To cut out errors due to fuel remaining in the fuel lines/pump etc. he would put exactly 1 litre in his tank and then run the car till every last drop was used. Sometimes he would hang his 'tank' on the offside quarter glass to raise it a bit. There have been (and there still are) some real gems in my family

Kind regards

Aditya

The car was registered in Pune in the 80s, and the paint looks more like a coat of primer. I doubt it survived considering how rough the car was at the time, and how low the demand was as well (not that its changed much today).

This 49-50's Moskvitch 400-420 is lying around for a while here in Nagpur, car seems to be restorable. Old Russian cars are a rare sight in India, must have had a interesting past.

Couldn't it be an old Opel?

Well looks like the Moskvich 400-420 was an Opel-iski anyway.

Quoting Wikipedia:

"At war's end, the Soviet Union deemed the plans and tooling for the 1939 Opel Kadett K38[5] as part of the war reparations package,[6] since the tooling in the Rüsselsheim factory was largely intact;[7] residents dismantling the Kadett production tooling and loaded fifty-six freight cars,[8] bound for Moscow and the newly built "Stalin Factory" (ZIS).[9] However, according to recent Russian sources, the Kadett plans and tooling were in fact not captured from the factory, because they did not survive there (and what survived was appropriate for producing a two-door model).[2]"

Most of the Opel tooling removed to Russia was for the two-door Kadett model, and the Russians converted this into a 4-door configuration that visually was near identical to the original Kadett 4-door. Although Opel was U.S. property, GM did not recover control of the factory until 1948 and were therefore unable to contest the transfer.

Wonder if there's a reason the car is kept the way it is, on display almost - one of those 'my family car, we will never sell' - and also never restore!
