Was there/Is there an 1959 Impala coupe anywhere in the country? I feel like I have seen one long time back. Cant find it right now.

If I am not wrong this car was for display at the Mumbai Auto show at BKC (2008 I think) in a Retro Bollywoodish themed corner. I was in 8th grade at that time and it was my first encounter with an American Classic car. I was ecstatic! I am trying hard to find the picture I took
Also IIRC, it had push button gears on the left side of the steering. Please correct me if I am wrong.

This will not qualify as coupe as it is basically a two door sedan.
The rear seat should be smaller or restricted compared to a sedan. Coupes have a sporty look.

This 1957 Chrysler 300C is probably the only complete Chrysler luxury coupe surviving in India.

The car is in Hyderabad. As far as I recollect the first owner was the Chancellor, Hyderabad University.

The current owner has been kind enough to send me pictures of the car. Here are pictures of car on the roads of Hyderabad

Very much KPS. While I was posting this one from my album, it had occurred that this one may not qualify. Or else, why the Heralds won't get in here as this Triumph too falls in that class ?

Thanks KPS for clarifying.

This is 5 window coupe with rumble seat. It is also referred as a Sport Coupe, as luggage access will be from behind the seats

Plymouth calls this car as a Deluxe Rumble Seat Coupe. Total of 12,118 units were built and priced at $ 630.

The Jaguar E Type is often referred as one of the most beautiful cars ever made.

Quote:
The E-Type was initially designed and shown to the public as a rear-wheel drive grand tourer in two-seater coupé form (FHC or Fixed Head Coupé) and as a two-seater convertible (OTS or Open Two Seater). A "2+2" four-seater version of the coupé, with a lengthened wheelbase, was released several years later.

Autocar road tested a UK spec E-Type 4.2 fixed head coupe in May 1965. The maximum speed was 153 mph (246 km/h), the 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) time was 7.6 seconds and the 1⁄4 mile (402 m) from a standing start took 15.1 seconds. They summarised it as "In its 4.2 guise the E-type is a fast car (the fastest we have ever tested) and offers just about the easiest way to travel quickly by road.".[32]

The Series 1 was produced 1961-68. The Late Ravi Kumar's beautiful Series 1 Jaguar E Type 2+2 has been since inherited by his niece. The car remains in Bangalore but is rarely seen. Pictures from Dominator's collection

This car comes with a 5.3L V8 Engine. Has a TorqueFlite push-button automatic. The car is currently undergoing restoration

Another great Coupe is in Mumbai. This is a 1957 Lancia Flaminia Sport with body built by Zagota.

Quote:
The Flaminia's engine was an evolution of the world's first V6, which was introduced in the Aurelia. It had increased bore and decreased stroke. The engines were mounted longitudinally, powering the rear wheels through a 4-speed rear-mounted transaxle.
The Sport's 2.5L V6 has a triple carb set up.

Fantastic subject but the name needs to be changed to "Vintage & Classic Coupes in India" to broaden the scope.

All two door cars are coupes but all coupes are not hard tops.

Pillarless = Hard Top Coupe only

Indrojit's Golden Hawk comes to mind, now that along with the 300C in Hyd quiet possibly top the list of period Coupes in India. Oh and the Ex Dubash 365GT.

Someone should compile a list of top 20 coupes in India that would be amazing

Thanks Wasif, whilst what you say is absolutely correct, I wanted to ensure that drop head coupes, cabriolets and 2 door sedans are not included in this thread. Hence the specific description.

Here is another car from Harit's collection, Rambler Marlin This car was produced between 1965-67 and more details are found here.

Just to make life difficult for you wrt to description, have a look at the photo below. What a curvaceous back side, can be better described in other words but not on this forum. But it is a 4-door, not pillar less, yet has a huge sunroof, and is so very nice. Would you exclude that? Strictly speaking yes, still a great car, fitting by manipulation into scheme of thing, someone please let us have opinions about the possible make's.

The pic of the Rambler Marlin, silver and red is a striking combo which I may follow. When it's time comes, of course.

I would say pretty confidently that the car is a late 1930s large Standard, maybe 14hp.

The picture is also probably flipped, we can see the letters M and C on the plate reversed. Plus LHD is unlikely for this car. Maybe the way the saari is draped can also be a clue

The beautiful Studebaker Golden Hawk is a two-door pillarless hardtop coupe, produced between 1956-58. Considered only second to the Chrysler 300C, which we were lucky enough to see earlier from Hyderabad. These cars were a precursor to the muscle cars of the 1960's

The car had a 5.8L V8, Packard engine and later in 1957 sported 4.7L V8 Studebaker engine with the addition of a McCulloch supercharge.

Here is the beautiful 1957 Golden Hawk, Ex-Pune
