First of all...the 170V is a pre war Model of the 170 series from Mercedes and the 170S is the post war model ( officially )....and this post war model came officially in the year 1953 and this is the car what made Mercedes to establish in Europe after the war

After the 2nd world war ...ie. in 1951, sure there were some left overs of the 170V in their plant and some cars were assembled from the left overs after the war and sold to civilians. But what mercedes they made officially after the war was called 170S. This 170S differs from the prewar model ( 170V ) in a lot of aspects incl. the body dimensions, meter clusters, bonnet openings, tail lights..etc.

Where as the 170S NEVER came in 2 door version incl. convertible or a coupe. Instead these models were made in the 220 series by the Mercedes.
bobby.fdz, I did mention in my post that Mercedes 170V was first shown to the public in 1936, i.e. PRE-WAR and was available in various body combinations.

In 1949, i.e. POST-WAR (world war II ended in 1945), 170S was introduced. In the same year the 170S Convertible was also introduced. You have rightly pointed out that there was a lot of difference between 170V and 170S, I did mention their respective technical specifications.

Sir, you may please refer to the following links which contain photographs of the 170S two door convertible since you mentioned that it "NEVER" came in two door version including convertible or coupe.

Aha, research, I do not do, instead I have a Mercrazy bro, check out his Ponton at MB ponton website Ashly Fernandez' 1960 Mercedes-Benz Type 190Db Ponton

We have a stable of Mercs starting with a 170V '38 to 500SEL AMG '95(In between these, there are 10 cars). Technically thats not the terminology of the car(AMG) Its called something else, what I meant to convey is its 500SEL done up/tuned by AMG. I sure will post pics soon.

Thats really a well maintained 190.Good job!

A little research is never harmful, particularly if we are posting on a public forum. Good to know that you have a stable of Mercs, do post the pictures.

Hello V 16 ,

I have tried attaching the PE photographs with the spoke wheels & double stepney on the mudguards , I hope this effort works . The car has been under restoration for a very long period , I expect to have it completed within the next 3 months.

A little more about the 170S.
As pointed out before the 170 model was introduced in 1949. The 170s initiated the post-war tradition of a more refined car which was elaborated by the "S" badge. The car sold as two cabrolet models, the "B" a four seater (sometimes equipped with a rumble or a Mother-In-Law seat) and the "S" a majestic two seater roadster. These were sold alongside the similar moddled sedan a four door 170"S" also available as an "SD" with a diesel engine till 1951. In 1952 the car was further revamped or refined into a "SB" which can be recognised by its larger rear wind screen, internal hinges on the trunk, steering mounted gear lever, amongst the most noticable changes. Other changes included a hypoid rear axle, camshaft drive via a duplex chain, wider track, etc. This was in production till 1953 being produced with the "D" version.
This was the year Mercedes included two stripped down versions of the 170 viz; 170S-V and S-D. These two stripped down versions were recognizable by the lack of chrome trim strips on the air vents in the hood, a grab handle instead of a twist handle on the trunk lid and now the bumpers were no longer reinforced with overriders. This allowed the majestic merc to be used for more mundane purposes other that transporting bosses, proffesors and ministers.

For a moment I thought it had something to do with you becoming a full-fledged fiatwala! :P
Btw, I remember you telling me the original dash & sidelights had been stolen...but strangely the bonnet vent doesnt give the impression that its a '62 Herald at all....nice car though! 'hope my Herald comes up as good as, if not better than this!
