Doc, do you have any pics of that car. Never thought Rushi would sell the car, I hadn't taken any pics of it. Do upload the pics if you have.

Today's newspapers were splashed with news of MF Husain's death.

The times of India carried a photograph of M F alongside a Fiat Select on which he had painted. The picture appears to be from the late 50's the car a Select looks new.

Any ideas about the whereabouts this car? I am trying to dig up more info about the project from my friends in the art world.

Car no is DLF 2937

Edit: this was at the Jehangir Art gallery 21st March 1969

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. I tried to search for it (can you provide your link?) but instead I came across this line by Shabana Azmi - wonder if its the same car.

"He had this small psychedelically-painted car. He'd put me into it and take me to Grant Road and Bhindi Bazar."

Husain was a child who never grew up: Shabana - The Times of India

Here is an interesting article on Husain and how he loved to paint his cars.
For Husain, even his car was canvas - The Times of India

Pictures of him painting a Fiat in 1969 can be seen here.

Google Image Result for http://www.timescontent.com/tss/photos/thumb/14106/Entertainment/M-F-Husain.jpg

My father recalls that early on in his life husain had several Fiats including a Dukkar Fiat and that he often painted these cars. The article I have posted seems to confirm this. If true these could today be the most priceless cars running around, if they are alive ofcourse

As I've said before, one of the few things I like about moving to Mumbai is the regular sighting of Fiat related oddities - this defective taxi wheel caught my eye the other day.

Here is another well maintained Super/Select that I see often. And the cab behind is numbered 1100 - Mumbai never fails to dissapoint the Fiat lover.

Interesting wheel...wonder why they did that!

And hasnt that Super/Select got the OHH REE GEE NAL large bumperguards?? A la amchi ravi's Superselect??

Worth picking up I reckon, and the first good thing to do to it is knock off those ugly cheapo plastic wheelcaps (even better if they are destroyed by a speedbreaker or pothole) and pull off all that sunfilm!!

While sourcing parts for my Millecento on Italian ebay, I came across these two in accessories section & could not resist posting them:

Never knew 1100/103 came in pickup version too:
