What are these controls for? Are they to do with the Pre-Selector?
Karl,
The two knobs pointed out by you are the horn buttons, one for soft and the other for loud
The gear change lever for the pre selector is on the right hand side of the steering wheel.

Does the pre select transmission function? needs a bit of TLC though, hope the owner gives it the care she deserves .
Yes sir , the pre select transmission does work , I hope I will do justice to the restoration, which will commence later this year and will be a minimal affair ( just to make the car mechanically reliable and change the seats to original green leather ) . I am trying to source the manuals for the car , once I have them in hand will answer the other queries, though, as per the previous owner who had the car for 64 years the extra fan belt was a standby in case the primary fan belt failed but more likely the power transmission requirement and reliability of the car were the factors which necessitated the use of mutiple belts. Actually in industrial application there are very motors which utilise single belts.

Chauhan

Hello Karl,

Yes the car is a fantastic - I would not call it a find , as I understand quite a few people knew about it's existence but I think about 15 years back it just dropped below the horizon and people forgot about it.

The car is a LQ3 20 (HP) Limousine.

I would say Studebaker/Erskine or Hudson/Essex? And is the engine a Chevy unit? Rare being a hardtop.

A friend chanced upon the remains of this Dodge bus while passing through UP. This style of body was introduced in the 1930s, much before the era of the truck. Most body building trends for commercial vehicles (especially busses) still show WW2 cues and technology.

Hello Vintageman,

Sorry for the delay in finding you out in this huge forum! - I have just joined a year ago (Jan '14) and am still learning the ropes of negotiating through the labyrinthine by-lanes of TBHP!

First off Capt. Sa'b, good day to you from another mariner. I am a marine engineer, recently retired after 35 years in blue water sailing (last was a 10 yr stint in Mitsui's car carrier fleet) and a further 6 yrs in offshore sailing - and no, I never joined any shore set-up, basically because I am not cut-out for the office!

Now, please accept my deepest appreciation and congratulations - for having such a fabulous additional occupation (restoration of vintages & classics) as well as farming!

I have been living in Lucknow for the past 20 years - since '95 - and it is my misfortune that I never met you in all these years. If I had, then perhaps my life may - just may! - have taken a different turn.

Like most of us in this forum, I too have been a dedicated gearhead from the time when, as a school boy in the late fifties, I would see a 1.5 L (or was it a 2.5 L ?) Jaguar with wire wheels, sea-green in colour, driving on the roads of Allahabad where I grew up. It was owned by an acquaintance of the family, a certain Bhagwan Bhaiyya, and that is all I knew about him! I wonder where that great car is today.

I also remember seeing a Hispano Suiza (an H6B I think) with fabric top, on the roads of Lucknow around the chowk area in '68-'69, when I was doing my Inter Science from Christ Church College. This was before I went out into the larger world, having joined DMET and starting my sea career! That Hispano would be worth a fortune today by anyone's reckoning, wouldn't it?

My congratulations once again and my best wishes to you in your efforts to save these spectacular bits of history.

Shashanka

Dear Shahanka,

Welcome to the forum. Thank you for the nice write up , I could do this because I stay in Lucknow.

Apologies for the delayed response, I do not have regular access to the net.

As they say, it's never too late - to own a vintage car.

I will be back in Lucknow end May, you are welcome to visit any time .

Regards
Chauhan

First car seems to be an Austin 7? It's the third one I can't place.
