Precisely, what I asked my friend (with a lot of exclamatory marks, though)! Unfortunately, the car was long gone by the time the lazy fellow went to take more pics. :(

I had posted these on another thread, but I feel they're appropriate here too.
Car spotted at an AutoExpo held at NIE college, Mysore.

"Chennai" was the name in Tamil even at the turn of the (20th) century! Mainly the rural folks used it, till the name was made official in English as well.

Looks like the bonnet is modified. Otherwise a very nice car.

In what way do you feel it is modified? This is a later Gazel, which had the bonnet opening this way, unlike the previous model, which had the "Herald system."
Ours had it like this too.

A Standard Vanguard clicked in a workshop way back in March 2008, when it was undergoing restoration.

It has many of its original trims and also the petrol engine, but the later add-ons like the tail lights were some kinda "jugaad" jobs.

Apparently, the car is a regular fixture there.

Er, you mean a regular visitor? You did mention in your previous post that it wasn't around when your friend (who'd taken the first snap of the front) went back for a second snap?

Incidentally, the same car had been advertised for sale in our tbhp classifieds itself around a year or so ago, at a steep price!

I called it a "regular fixture", not a permanent fixture!
According to my friend, the car is always to be seen at the same spot and during the same hours. It appears to be a daily drive. My friend was unlucky ( and lazy! ) to have missed it out the first time.

Saw this standard companion in a bylane off shankar seth road in Pune along with this there was also a red herald and i think a dukkar fiat. Could any standard guru throw more light on the companion as it was the first time i had seen this vehicle.
