Sorry for my absense for sometime. The car has been doing great thought it drives like a Boat. I have been driving it around the city and have been enjoying every bit of it.

I had a bit of a situation in finding out tyres for the car. The original tyre size is 127 R 16 5.00 and apparently they are not produced anymore. I ended up replacing those with R 16 6.00

I am adding some pictures of this.

Question regarding the '48 Hillman Minx- did it ever come with a FLOOR shift? I was under the impression they have column shift only (3 speed) and have seen it thus even in diagrams/illustrations in books etc. However, I came across one at the VCCCI rally in Bombay this month that has a floor shift- could it be converted?

Well 48 was a crossover year between Series 1 and Series 2.

I've never seen an original Minx with floor shift so quite likely a modification.

I'm not entirely sure about the Series 1 but the Series 2 came with a 4 speed and not the 3 that you mentioned.

Hey
So I did an extensive research on this and I have seen a couple of 48 Minx's in the US as well. They were all 4 speed forward and 1 reverse mounted on the steering column. Having said that, the gear box is located under the front seat and some have talked about mods to have floor gears.
I hope that answers your questions.

Is'nt that the Bhagat car? His cars seem to be a bit ratty-tatty, but the man himself has contributed quite a bit, to the VC Movement.

Cheerio!

I could learn these facts when the car was awarded at The Hitavada V&C Rally,Nagpur, 2007 as "The Most Original Car". Only then could realise why was that for?

Can you post some more pictures of this car? I will also like to see conditions under the hood.

A very original Bangalore registered 1950 Hillman surfaced. The car was wrapped in plastic for more than 30 years. Except for the rot due to moisture the car is very intact.

Note the original headlight with rings and park lights

Tin work should not be a challenge

Dash is complete

The engine is complete, even the original air filter exists

The radiator is clean

I am wondering if this car had earlier belonged to Mr. Harry Gonsalves of Richardstown, Bangalore. In the 60's my dad used it on his visits and in the 80's I have used it in Bangalore. I have even bought a brand new dicky handle with lock (English) for the car. Since the gentleman passed away in 1987, the family disposed it after that. But it was an original car. Mohaan

This car had been with one family, till it was recently sold. It was parked , covered with plastic for more than 30 years, at their bungalow off Infantry Road.

Cheers
