Default Man's Best Friend!

BHPians for the fairer sex may not agree with the Copy!

But this is from 1967 when the world was definitely more romantic (and for some more Chauvinistic

So please don't come after an old man (who with three females at home can not afford to be an MCP

Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe

Default Mercedes- Benz first ever

This is the first advertisement to ever carry the two names Mercedes and Benz together in a single campaign, I clicked this in the Mercedes Benz museum in stuttgart. Notice how the star comes from Mercedes and the surrounding wraith from benz to form the logo we know today

Default Mercury Meteor

Hi All,

I have not seen many advertisements for this brand in India.

The attached one was from May 1949.

Was Mercury as brand ever sold in India either pre 1947 or post 1947 - early 1950s?

The Art Quality of the advert really stans out inspite the badly preserved copy. Car illustrators really were a breed apart.

Hope you like this

Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe

Ram

That is a beautiful piece no doubt. Was it taken from an Indian publication?

The most popular Mercurys in India I would guess would be the 46-48 models, though some later models are around. I don't recall ever seeing this model. Appears to based on the Ford Custom.

EDIT - I see it says Product of Ford of Canada - no wonder we aren't used to seeing this.

Ford Canada, based in Windsor Ontario just across the river from Detroit, up-graded their Ford model and offered it as a Meteor with some small trim changes extending their model offerings in Canada.

My 1950 Ford Monarch, that I have shown in My Garage, was based on the American Mercury.

Canada being apart of the British Empire, the early Model T's exported to India came from Ford Canada in Windsor.

For lack of a better place, I post this here. It is a SIAA membership card dating to the 60s, courtesy my uncle. He bought his 1961 Fiat from his cousin in Madras in 1968, and this card is part of the extensive history file, including manual, warranty card, delivery tag - the works.

Has anyone noticed that most parsi owned ice factories are called Mazda?

Most, if not all all, Right Hand Drive Fords/Mercurys in India came from Ford Canada - there was some angle wrt to Commonwealth nations and business. The engine blocks had a clear marking saying Ford Canada.

Slightly off topic, but maybe of interest to some, Ford also made aircraft, the Ford Trimotor being one of them, also flying in Indian skies!

But I know of a Parsi owned ice factory in Hyderabad called Dalton's. It existed in the 1930's, the parsi couple owned an Austin 7 chummy and a Norton bike. I have pics. They were relatives of my friend, the factory no longer exists.

Cheers harit

I suppose patronising the Brits. My great-great grandparents had a hotel in Hyderabad called Montgomery's! I believe it still exists (though sold decades back). The only thing we have left is a beautiful fork with the stylised 'M' logo
