The advers is from Readers Digest - April 1961
Once again, I'm thrilled to see this pic.!! How I envy even those workers in the pic.!!

Incidentally, hope its not OT: suren181 told me his late father had initially worked at Carborandum Universal Machinery India (a.k.a CUMI) which I think was it's full name. I remember him telling me they had a tie-up with Standard Motors, which entitled the senior employees to buy cars (only Standards of course) at 1/3rd of the showroom price, the remaining amount adjusted form their salary. They would have to sell the car after a period of 3 years though.

Aah, Dagenite!! The name does ring a bell- we had this on our Standard Gazel years ago! I think until around 1997-98.

Thanks for the nostalgia, ram!

Guys,

I have a 911 book with me.

There are reviews of all the 911 inclusive of the paint shades in the real paint and interior shades and other accessories offered on the 911.

I know this is not the right place to post the same yet I will post if this is of interest to anyone here.

Recently came across this advert for a Solex Carb promising good fuel economy.
This came from a Magazine called filmindia of 1938. A fellow bhpian took me to his father-in laws house and showed the magazines as there were some interesting car pics and dealer ads. I did not know that Hyland was also a dealer for Armstrong Siddley. I only knew that they were Fiat dealers.
In one magazine there is a photo of an actress called Rose with her 120 touring sedan Packard at the Gateway of India. The car is of about 1937. Pictures are being processed.

Cheers

r_nairtvm,

Nice to see an add like this, I work for the same company now bought by Caterpillar. These R25 dumpers are the workhorses and after so many years are still working in the field. These can still be found working in the some of the steel factories carrying Slag. Now that's a real tough job.

Default Ask The Man Who Owns One!

Hi,

The the advertisement copy below. The catch line says it all about the classic YEZDI/JAWA.

The advertisement is from RD Feb 1974. The late 60s and 70s were the time Yezdi was ruling the roost o two wheelers in India. With a wait list of over two years, even the bookin paper was work an extra Rs 1,000.00 those days.

The Ideal Jawa is also the classis example of "perishing for lack of R&D, Innovation and Keeping up with technology

The model featured in the advert was one unsuccessful innovation they tried with the Yezdi - the head features the radial fins rather than the vertical fins. I think they tried this model between 1973-76.

All we can say now is RIP the spirit of Yezdi/Jawa

Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe

Ram

Thanks for posting this! This was the bike I learnt to ride on. A radial-finned 1975 Yezdi. Nostalgia! Wish I could have the bike back.

I came across this ad on eBay - apparently dated to WW2.

I guess its war time propganda to cheer up the people - telling them how well these Plymouths have performed as cabs in Bombay after so many years.
