Are there any such models here in India?
'never seen one of this type but here's a pic. I'd uploaded of an A 40 Somerset convertible that was hired as a wedding car for my parents' wedding back in 1969 at Madras:

This is curiously a LHD! 'never seen any conv. versions of the Somerset here either.

This car was advertised for sale way back in Car & Bike or some similar publication.
It was in Auto India, somewhere in 1999, advertised with 3 more cars of the doc., (cant recall all of them but one other car was an MGY, 1947 saloon.)
This car was described as "restored but deteriorated"

For all us Lambretta lovers, here are some pages from the owner's manual from my grandmother's 1976 Lambretta that she had in Cochin. Registered KRE 3411 - is it still alive? The Kerala RTO website still has it listed under her name, though it was probably sold in the early 80s.

Books giving basic/practical tips for motorists (such as this one) were very popular till the 70s and 80s. The owner/driver would still carry out minor routine maintenance himself. This great book by Burmah Shell came with my 1973 Premier President from my grandfather.

A book on manintenace and repair of the Solex carburettor came with another Fiat, and more of these books came to me in a similar manner. A most interesting one was solely on tyres.

Today I really had some luck! The painter at the garage where I'm getting jai's Herald restored gave me a surprise today, saying that Auto Chenoy, the then dealer for Standard Motors, and subsequently Maruti, had moved its premises again to another part of Secunderabad recently. So they were clearing out some old stock of books/mags they had, which the guy happened to notice on going there on some other purpose a few months ago. Among the ones he managed to get hold of were a few carefully preserved manuals/parts books on a few of the Indian Standard variants; one on the Herald, featuring mostly the mark 3 (4-door) Herald and 3 on the Standard 20 van! Plus a few brochure-page scans of the Herald "front-end unit" a semi-stripped driveaway chassis cab model that was designed for enterprising buyers to build their own bodies over (mostly commercial) but unfortunately never made it in the market AFAIK. Then also for the first time I saw, a manual for the Standard 2000!

I did tell the garage folks if they didnt want them, I'd be glad to have these! Keeping my fingers crossed!

Sorry some of the snaps are a bit shaky!

Great stuff shyam. Even if the Garage guy doesn't want to give them to you, I would suggest you photocopy the all the workshop manuals etc and then spiral bind them and keep them for your self since you are the guru of heralds. Its really helpful sometimes when you are working on these cars.

That's a good find Shyam, things like the front end unit and 2000 manual are rarely seen. I do have a few Std 20 manuals and a Mk3 and Std 10 parts catalogue, besides some assorted workshop manuals for the Herald, Vanguards and Flying Standards. Got them from the erstwhile dealer in Pune.
