Here is a more recent one, my parent's wedding in January of 81. I really like the way it turned out, especially since it has the rarely seen Premier Safari/Starliner/Stationwagon in it. The wagon was owned by the Ruby Hall Clinic which my Uncle started, and was around till 4-5 years back. I didnt have the foresight to save it back then, and it was in terrific condition. The horn ring in my car came from this one.

I remember you sending me this pic. once too! I wish I couldve seen more of that sadly abused powder blue herald though! It has the standard badge on the top of the bootlid, which means it could be a repainted '62/63 model!

Finally managed to take some pics. of this portrait hung on the wall at home. This is our Gazel taken around the same year my father bought it (1981) I guess. That's my sister, then 7 or 8 years old, in a very period attire- IMHO the ad/sales brochure for this car shouldve been something like this!
The other 2 I searched out from one of our albums. These were taken on the day we bought the car in January '81 (I was born 11 months later!), as can be seen. That's my mother and sister. The last pic. isnt too clear but including it just for completeness!

Ive tried my best to take good shots of them!

Here are two lovely photographs courtesy Deepak Velankar (veldeep on the forum).

The picture with the rickshaw is of his father with Jawaharlal Nehru and other senior figures, and the other is a lovely shot of a Tempo Hanseat (?).

These hanseet tempos STILL ply near indore!! They are quite a good sight to see. They way the front wheel almost comes off when they start to move is worth seeing!!! the foreigners who came for the SAE event were all shellshocked.

p.s.- Found a HUGE collection of dads photos!! will post them soon!!

Sure chettA! As and when I take them!

Although we still do have it we dont use it anymore, as my dad misplaced the RC long ago (circa 1994) when he had bought a brand new m800- now put 2 and 2 together and you'll see what the connection between the 2 events!

I have the car parked in somebody else's apartment parking lot, I go and dust the car once in a while though. Luckily its safe from any kind of pilfering, at present atleast.

This is my favourite.

My great grandmother and uncle touring the USA in 1964. The van (rented) was a 54 model 1200cc, and fitted with cabinets, tents, stove and sleeping berths.

Wow, lovely pics. Karl! BTW, if you dont mind me "prodding", why did they take a neighbour's car? They did have a car then, right (if this was before the herald, it wouldve been a Fiat 500c?)

Just did a google search and found some info. via wikipedia:

Peace Pagoda - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The oldest of such pagodas in India are in Bodhgaya (built 1969)
So my guess is that's where it could be?

Why are the hoods open in most pics?? Were the cars prone to overheating or something??

Appreciate and thanks Karl for sharing such collection of pictures,
wonderful pictures of its times, please keep coming more. I am sure
you have more interesting photos to share with you. Specially cars
with streets scene will tell lot of stories of that period.

Bonnets were open I think to cool the engine, when going on long distances. My father also used to stop car under tree and open bonnet
our Hindustan 48, Austins to cool the engine, while travelling between Madras and Hyderabad.

The Peace Pagoda seems to be somewhere in Thailand, Bangkok or Vietnam that side of countries.

Regards,

Being 15th Aug, it was thought appropriate to load this picture today.

This photo was bought by Harit (for a large sum of money he tells me!), and reportedly contains Jinnah and Mountbatten in the car, probably to sign the declaration of independance. Im sure Karim would be thrilled to see this picture, as the car is almost surely BWP 31.
