Some unidentified cars over the years. Help in identification would be greatly appreceated.

These 3 were taken on their many travels abroad. The first picture of the black car was taken in Nice, France.

This one I assume was taken in Germany or Austria.

This is amongst my favorites. Appears to be Italy, and I think I read Lancia on the wheel.

This ones for you. I recently found this picture amongst the lot, behind it is written "car showroom, East Street". I can see nothing remotely like this on East Street today, so I really dont know where it was! I can see a petrol pump, and signs for Vauxhall and Amco

Dadajee Dhackjee were Hillman dealers, and I suppose this was one if their cars. Im yet to identify the gent behind the wheel. The photo is taken at 5 Elphinstone Road, where the Cresswell Tailors board still hangs. The car must be quite an early one, I see no sidelights upfront.

I am lost in these pics. Amazing pictures Karl.

Can we take that Vauxhall picture along and try to hunt that place on East street?

Sure, but looking at the picture will make things more difficult since the landscape has changed so much! Perhaps it is where J Williams currently stands, or more likely the pump near 11 East Street cafe, near Dass Garage. That looks like Dass's wall to the left.

Actually Dass would be the right man to identify the picture. He's had his garage at East Steret since 1960 after all!

Thats what I thought after I saw the pump. Although the building is renovated and way beyond recognition compared to its old avatar, there should be some trace.

And now some from my immedeate family. Nothing as wild or exclusive here

A 20s Baby Austin, my Aunts first car in Madras. Can anyone decipher the regn for me? Ive never seen one written like that.

nostalgic-pictures-our-family-s-cars-austin01.jpg

She then progressed to this Standard Flying 8, BYF 8681. Has anyone seen this car? Id love to track it down. She then went on to a 50s black Super 10, BYH 1997 (no pics unfortunately), before buying the Pennant in 1960, my current car, BYH 5123.

Another distant uncle (I use the term uncle very loosely!) had bought this 1935 Standard 10 new, and drove it till 64 when he passed away. The car was then sold.

Another uncle drove this Mk 5 Jag, ex Sultan of Brunei, in Madras I think. Incidentally I got my hands dirty for the first time on this very same car back in 2000 in Pune, and I had no clue it was my uncle's car at one point! Since sold to Jaipur Im told.

He also owned this gorgeous Citroen Traction Avant cabrio. Quite rare I would think.

A few bikes. My Grand uncle has identified the years, they may not be 100% accurate.

He and his family on a 1927 (?) Triumph. Seems earlier to me. If only he hadnt sold it for 2 digit figures when he came to India

nostalgic-pictures-our-family-s-cars-triumph-model-1927-sq-tank.jpg

Here he is on a 39 Speed Twin Triumph.

His sister on a 1941 Royal Enfield in Karachi. Its quite likely that the other 2 pictures were also shot in Karachi.

One of my grandmothers Lambrettas. To the right is my father, his budgie, and his dog Zhigo. Apparently named after Dr Zhivago!

nostalgic-pictures-our-family-s-cars-msw01.jpg

My father (pictured on the left) as you can see had a fascination for cars early in life. He threw such a tantrum when they were moving house far away that they had to pack the pedal car in the flight with them!

My father and his family with one of my grandfathers 13 Ambassadors. Being at the Central Bank and transferred every year, he was given another Amby everytime he moved.

My grandfather with his pride and joy. The Southern India Automotive Association Badge on the grille is now displayed on my Premier President.

My dad in the early 60s and the mid 80s with his own Herald by then - old habits die hard!
