| Enough of that stuff please ![]() The more one learns the more one realises how little one knows. There are some here who know more than I, especially about the cars here in India. I spent 20 years nearly full time in workshops in India and the rest of my time recovering from the work in the workshop (gets hot in Delhi) or arranging parts to be imported. So not much time for non essential research or hunting. Lovely pics Shankar but this thread is only for old nostalgic pics and the whole section is only on cars in or cars that came to India otherwise there will be no room left. ![]() Last edited by Julian UK : 24th April 2008 at 17:42. |

| BHPian | the one with michael caine and Sir Noel Coward is one of my all time favourite car movies apparently they destroyed about 5 or 6 cars during the making of the movie - starting with the ferrari in the beginning and then all those lovely cars, the aston, the jag and all that when the boys were accosted on the Italian Alps by the Mafiosi chap. But the mini chase through the sewers of turin were absolutely the best. amazing movie - and the GB stickers on the back of the cars were like a "thumb to nose" gesture at the pursuers! fantastic. cheers Quote: | |

| Hit the jackpot again: This is an amazing site and has a lot of short viewable films back to 1930 and stills of cars back to 1905 or so in India. The films are very interesting, the still pictures rather small. To post still pictures on team-bhp Rs 7900 per photo per year. So just enjoy the little ones, a magnifying glass helps. Click at the top of the page for still images or moving images www.imagesofempire.com Then type India into the search at the top right corner. The stills Guess the car in Muzzafarnagar in 1942 on page 1 A car in the background on page 4 2 images of Viceroy’s Rolls-Royce in Indore and Jaora on page 5 Mysore Royal Mail trucks in 1937 on Page 6 1928 Hotchkiss on page 14 Austin 7 in 1935 on page 15 Avion Voisin in 1932 on page 16 and 17 Itala and another car next to it, lower down a Renault in Calcutta in 1908 on page 18 Governor of Madras in a 1905ish Daimler on page 21 Guess the car in Suket 1928 Maybe a Bullnose Morris in 1930 on page 27 Guess the car in Kolhapur on page 30 Model T Ford on page 33 I think it’s a Renault, (I can’t make out the bonnet front) on page 35 Maharaja of Mysore in something in 1909 on page 40 The moving images, just wade through them there are quite a few of cars back to 1930. Carl don’t miss the Standard Vanguard driving onto the ferryboat. I know its all Brits and Maharajahs but lets just keep this site for the car interest? Notice the Renault. This red car is also in Calcutta, perhaps the same car?

| Very similar, but the curvature of the scuttle behind the radiator is quite different. Did you see the films of the Vanguard and a Vauxhall on the ferryboat? Also the Indian army mechanics assembling a whole truck in 5 minutes? ![]() |

| Just can not get this site to load from my workplace computer, probably some kind of Blockers etc. Will try from home. My uncle, the Nawabzada of Tank had a Voisin, (no idea of type/model) which they had bought when the family was on the annual tour of Europe around 1936/7. The car was taken back to the UK, where they had permanent residence in what is now Hampstead Heath. It was also in New Delhi around 1940-46 when the Nawab sahib was living on Aurangzeb Road. I have seen a number of pictures of it, some very nice ones outside the Casino in Monte Carlo and will try to convince my aunt to allow me to post for sharing. Just as an aside, the entire Tank polo team was made up of the Nawab and his seven sons, and was named the Tank Brothers. Last edited by Technocrat : 27th April 2008 at 03:00.
