Later on this car was sold and moved to Pune now, with some changes like missing front grill and monogram. However what I noted it is unique
never seen DeSoto like this before. It is strong car and very interesting
dash board. Previous owner in Hyd used to start and drive only occassionally in festivals and never seen any rallies.
Finally found pictures of the car after 5 yrs as was promised when it was offered to me for sale many many years ago. At a price which sounds ridiculously low today when sold it was still on its 6v system. One that i regret letting go.

This Desoto was offered to me as well for three lacks, eccentric owner , lived on a farm with his dogs just outside Poona.

I am told he passed away last year. Young man fond of his drink, which hastened his meeting with the good lord that created all.

Incidentally, good to see garages in India finally opening up to the use of WD 40 and other sprays!
Slow but steady progress indeed!

I wonder if it has the stock gasoline engine & three speed. If it does it is a good restoration project.

Thanks Vinay. Actually, the body was original and also the chassis. The dash meters were all worn out but the speedo was in place in a tattered condition.

I was told that the engine (OMG its a OHV engine who would believe that in 1929 a Chevrolet would come with an OHV ?) is borrowed from a 1950's Chevrolet pick-up, the famous looks.

The front grille is fabricated and nowhere comes near its original looks.
It has no USP's other than the few points I mentioned above.

YES indeed the 1929 chevy was with an OHV engine but it was a Four Cylinder one and the accelerator linkages pass thru a gap between the 2 nd and third cylinder. The TDC of the pistons was not flush with the bore top but about an inch plus lower in the bore. Moreover if am not wrong the OHV engines started off in the chevy even in 1926.

Looking at it from the perspective of someone who grew up with Chevies of this Vintage, it's actually part of a 1932 Chev with an odd grill and a modified 1933 bonnet . The Dash is pure 1932 .As for the chassis ,it seems to be 1932 with earlier axles and 1932 Front wings and 18' 1932 wheels

The windshield frame could be 1928 . The piece between the front wings is a 1929 peice and possibly those bumpers.
Chevies have always been overhead valve, they never built a sidevalve and their first V8,in 1918 was OHV.

It could be a stylemaster, the less expensive model. The difference is in the presence of a chrome gravel guard on the rear fender, and a more expensive hood ornament. Not enough exposure to make a positive identification.
Really enjoy the patience and intensity you folks apply to your vehicle identifications; the RR comments were most valuable. Thanks, Noonrock
