A long car chase sequence is seen in this clip from the 1981 movie 'Biwi O Biwi'.

Predominantly you see Fiats and Ambys but Sanjeev Kumar (one character out of 2 that he plays) right through drives a modified car probably based on a Jeep (LHD) that is made to look like a 1920s vintage car. Registered CPO 165.

This is from the 1956 film CID, where Johnny Walker is seen with Shakila (?), singing the song " Yeh Hai Bombay Meri Jaan".Most of the shooting is done on Marine Drive. We see lots of cars in some scenes. The assortment of black and yellow cabs is exciting. The Minx, an Austin 10,a Ford Prefect and so on.A may be, brand new Fiat Dukkar of perhaps 1955 or 56 and a Vauxhall are also sighted.

And this one (Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke) shows Delhi in the first few scenes in the 1957 film, Nau Do Gyraah. An Austin Sommerset overtakes Dev Anand near India Gate (the hood and door glasses are only seen). The traffic was so sparse about 54 years ago near India Gate - unbelievable! Dev Anand drives in a 40's Chevrolet mini truck.Incidentally, he has to drive to Bombay from Delhi through National Highway One perhaps, but I could see that his Chevrolet does not even have a horn button! The Chevrolet-Dodge Suburban rendezvous is superb but the Dodge is not shown in full.

'happened to watch this 70s Tamil movie "Avargal" on youtube. Not many scenes with cars in this but can see a couple of 1100 D taxis, a passing Standard Gazel and a Ford Consul mk1 (anyone from Madras who know of this car?)

Surprisingly the Gazel (and a companion again passing by) is the only Standard seen in the few scenes showing the road/traffic in this movie! I guess Standard cars were by this time (1978) diminishing in Madras, even the Pennant taxis that could be seen in older movies appear to have been replaced by the Fiat-Amby fleet!

A still from the movie PARIVAR. Heralds were very popular in movies, extreemly useful before they finally vanished. Later on Contessa's met a similar fate.
And then there is a scooter.

Dodge Fargo?

Old movies were treasure troves of cars and mostly the cars used were either owned by the producer, director or the actor himself.
Rajesh Khanna and the Kapoor clan had a penchant for using their own cars in their films, especially for songs etc.

This is a 10 minute video of the old film Pasand Apni Apni (1983).Mithun Chakraborty moves in a Mercedes W115. Along the road the other cars viz. Fiats, Premiers and Ambassadors abound. Interestingly an Ambassador of a rare but very popular colour of the 1970's (post Mark 3)is also seen. The colour is orange brown.

This is a song featuring Mazhar Khan from the film Shaan (1980). The song is sung by Mohammed Rafi and music is by Pancham (RDB).No exquisite cars are seen other than Fiats/ Premiers,Ambassadors, glimpse of a Gazel and trucks including a Bedford (or Hindustan J 6) and several Tata models.

Default Lots of glimpses of Mumbai's BEST buses of 1976

If you want to see Mumbai's BEST buses of mid-70's, watch the Hindi movie "Choti Si Baat". Much of the story is shot in BEST buses or with BEST buses in the background. This movie totally stands out for this aspect.

If you are like me who remembers the BEST buses of that time (incl the articulated double-decker trailor bus (with the Fabina Suitings ad on them), or the regular double decker with the black grill face exposed), you'll enjoy watching it.

Its available for free on youtube (all the parts are available, showing part 1 o the movie below).

For our FIATful friends, here's what looks like an early 70s Fiat 131 Mirafiori driven by Nasiruddin Shah in the early 80s movie 'Masoom' shot in Delhi.
No other exculsive cars in this movie, just the usual Ambys (cant believe how many of them were around in Delhi!) and Premiers.
