Lovely! Wonderful! Exceptional! Excellent!. Well, I am running out of adjectives to describe this!

It would seem that this particular Fintail is a basic version. It seems to be a 190/C.

The Fender mounted Indicators, as is evident, are Ponton items, which were continued in Heckflosses as well.

Also, going by the position of wing mirrors, the car is post 1963 or later.

Another thing to note, is that this car has early-type tail-lamps fitted on.

The production of Heckflosses ceased in 1968.

BTW, What was the registration number?

Cheers!

Fintail/Heckflosse!

Please excuse for the quality of images, its from a phone camera.

Did W124 300D come in manual too ? Are there any in and around Mumbai.
This car has an interesting accessory too, the flag pole mount on the front mudguard. Mercedes will not sell them seperately but can be ordered by special customers, such as governments, and high end Hotel and other fleet buyers. I think, from memory the cost was around $900 USD for the mount and flag pole.

An interesting fleet import, Asian Games 1982.

Not expert enough to say if they are indeed 200D's. Courtesy GoI

Indeed 200D's imported by the Government, there were about 200 of them. After the games, they were distributed to various ITDC (Indian Tourist Development Corporation) offices all over India and used as hire-taxis. Later they were sold off. Mumbai ITDC used to get them repaired by Andrade Motors after they had shifted to Worli. Later the cars were sold off.
Though Telco was the agent for Mercedes-Benz cars, another agent was appointed for this deal. Now why would one do that, in 1982?

Cheers harit

I was given to believe substantially more than 200 were imported. STC informed us about it when my dad picked a car in 1984 from STC yard in Delhi. Also this particular import of lots continued as the one my dad picked up was a Asian games 200d with square headlights. He was given to understand that not all cars went to itdc as there were just too many (he saw a massive stock pile of all white cars). Some unsold inventory was used by Senior STC officials as official cars till 1990 or there abouts, I owned one such 240d car till recently. STC kept those cars very well in their care as my car was impeccable.

The Asian games cars had nothing to do with STC. There were 200 of them which were passed on, mainly to ITDC. Why ITDC? Because in the end it was for tourism development. Till then India was using certain selected cars like Novas, Toyota, Holden etc. bought from STC for tourist taxi use. After a few years these cars were returned to STC. And the Mercs imported were all 200D's, not any 240D was brought in this bulk purchase. These foreign tourist taxis were meant to earn India foreign exchange.

Here is an Indian version of "Christine". The story of a haunted Mercedes in Dinajpur.....

Vintage & Classic Mercedes Benz Cars in India-dinajpur-mercedes.jpg

“Haunted Cars” has been an integral part of scary movies and other horror visual entertainments. Those might be the work of mere fiction. But you would be amazed to know, that there is a Mercedes Benz in Dinajpur,West Bengal, which is claimed to be haunted. We were requested to hide the actual names and information of the same.

This Mercedes Benz was owned by a Zamindar of Dinajpur. He loved his car more than anything and everything in the world, and thus he didn’t hire a driver for it. He drove it himself. After five long years of relationship with his beloved car, he died. It was unfortunate that he died in an accident in his own car. He didn’t had any offspring, thus his nephew got the charge of his car.

frankly, I'd be able to give lots of TLC to this car forever in my collection , and firmly end all the superstitions attributed to her!

Even if the story is true, the car in the picture certainly isn't. This car was on sale in Delhi a few months back, with a proper ad on olx.

Either that, or the Zamindar's ghost drove it all the way to Delhi and put up an ad on the internet.
