Sorry if in the wrong place but couldnt find a right thread for this. 'saw this weird looking 'Fiat' Jeep parked here. At first, I was rather skeptical despite it being a LHD but on googling, could conclude that it is a Fiat Campagnola:

Fiat: Fiat Jeep

Albeit a heavily modified one! Especially the rear, and also the front windscreen.

I saw my first Fiat 1101 Campagnola outside Eros Cinema, Bombay in 1983. It was olive green and all complete.

First impression was it was more for show than for go!
All Fiat Campagnolas were lighter duty 4x4s than our Mahindra Jeeps.

Ref: 18th October 2008, 23:12
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/intern...ml#post1020622 (Official Guess the car Thread (Please see rules on first page!))

There were two varieties,
a 1.9 litre petrol engined model called the Fiat 1101 Campagnola, and
a 1.9 litre diesel engined model called the Fiat 1102 Campagnola.
After 1974, the petrol version had a 2 litre engine and was called
Fiat 1107 Campagnola. There were also a pair of diesels called
Fiat 1107D Campagnola.
One was a 2 litre 60 bhp diesel and the other was a 2.5 litre 72 bhp diesel.

Thanks for the additional info, ram! BTW, am I correct about the rear of this Campagnola being modified? The tail-lamps for one thing, do make it obvious.

There are several in India, there is one I know of in Poona owned by a friend. One was offered for sale to me many years back. I wonder how these came into India considering there were established 4x4 manufacturers here.

The green one landed up at a garage near Tata Oil Mills. And that guy had a parts car!
There was one in Calangute, Goa which was also modified and rented out. Sure there must be more, at least 10 in India. That is not really much.
But why wonder how they came to India? Just like all the other few lots of Wagoneers, Landies, Land Cruisers etc. Someone brought them in under some special category.
Perhaps the Goa car was inherited from the Portugese.

Cheers harit

A LHD 1942 Willys CJ3A with a Gwalior numberplate. Its under restoration. The engine is original (last three pictures) and so are many of the body components. The dash meters are however not.

This is not a 1942 model jeep. CJ3A's are 1952 model jeep, frame dose not belong to CJ3A or CJ2A. It a mixture of many jeep models.

1) There was no CJ3A in 1942. They came in 1949
2) In fact, there wasn't even a CJ-2A in 1942. They came in 1945.

Your Jeep looks like a late Willys CJ-2A to me (1947 or later).
Early CJ-2As had a full-floating rear axle. This one has a semi-floating rear axle. CJ-2As were made from 1945 to 1949.

OT: I learned to drive on a pristine Willys CJ-2A (foot operated starter button) in Betul MP in Diwali 1966.

Ref my Aug. 2008 post.
