Default PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Automobiles)

People for the Ethical Treatment of Automobiles (classic & Vintage).

I am starting this thread to bring to the notice of all our members the cruelty done to the vintage and classic cars and bikes. The first in line is the Enfield bike seen at Bangalore Central.

A 1995 Premier Padmini Export (note plastic protective seat covers!) and a Hindustan Ambassador 'karma cab' (again, note seat covers) on display in a museum in the UK.

A similar car was featured in a new hindi movie called "All The BesT". I wonder if it is the same car.

This Dodge is parked at the Ramoji Film City near Hyderabad and alongside is a period petrol pump. Its dash has the meters and is quite original.
So its quite likely that this car has been featured in "All the Best".

Here is the gorgeous Audi roadster on display at the Audi stall at the recently concluded Auto Expo. I believe it is a replica from their Ingolstadt facility, and it is absolutely stunning! I think they can lose the 'No. 1' mascot though

I saw this picture of what looks like a 1966 Bug perched atop a hotel in Darjeeling. The picture appears in this month's issue of Lonely Planet magazine.

KARL,
1. Were these cars built in India and exported to England?
2. Are they original as shipped cars? If so the maroon colour would it have been a standard colour offered here in India?

Ambys were exported to the UK every now and then (I think some still come in freshly). How the Padmini got there I dont know. Probably specially bought by the museum.

The maroon colour was very much offered in the Padmini S1 (circa 1995?), possibly was offered at some point earlier too.

An old timer tells me very confidently that a maroon option was available for (at least) the early Millecentos (1954-56).

Just to add to that, the Amby on display is an Ambassador Nova, and that too came with Maroon colour as a factory option. A neighbor used to have a maroon nova with white curtains and white towel-type seat covers .

As for Ambys in Britain, I've heard of a company in UK which maintains a fleet of fully decked up Ambys, that do wedding car duty.

They were offered in the Super-selects too- a popular camera dealer in Secunderabad I know told me they had one bought brand new in their family that was maroon according to him.

I have owned a Padmini in Maroon. Also I had a saffron colour President, which was the original colour from the factory.

True. I have seen some pictures of the mentioned Ambys. Apart from wedding car Duty, they also run as Special Taxis, If I remember correctly, The Co. is owned by a Sardarji?.
