Spoke to my uncle who grew up on Sleater Road. He does have faint memories of the showroom from his childhood, but most probably shut down in the 70s. Wallace Flour Mills was demolished in the 80s and a residential building stands in that place.

Ok, Wallace Apartments is a well known landmark in the area. Till recently I used to see a junking silver 115 200D lying in the premises, I believe since restored.

Member RavenAvi posted this gem here

Dealerships, Coachbuilders, Vehicle Assembly in India-img_1492.jpg

It is an ad for Fiat dating to the late teens or early 20s.

Dealers are mentioned as
  • Bombay - A. Hyland Ltd, Hughes Road.
  • Calcutta - A. Milton & Co. Ltd., Dharamtala Street.
  • Delhi - Barker & Hooper (Coachbuilders India) Ltd., Kashmir Gate
  • Madras - Fiat Motors Eastern India Agency, Mount Road.

The first two we have seen earlier too, but this is the first time I am hearing of the other two being Fiat agencies.

  • Rajendra Industrial Works - Nagpur
  • Rajputana Motor Car Co - Ajmer
  • Sikand & Co - New Delhi
  • Triangular Motors Ltd - Bombay
  • Union Co. (Motors) Ltd - Madras
  • P H Wadia & Sons - Rajkot

That's new! I thought Metro Motors, originally at Hughes road, was the only dealer. Or was it the same dealer renamed Metro later on?

Just came across this "Sewri Ford Road" in Mumbai. I know GM used to have a factory at Sewri, but did Ford too have one? Or is it "Fort" misspelt as "Ford"? Sewri was indeed a Fort in the early colonial days.
