A FIAT 501 Torpedo . The parts pilfered and sold by locals for pennies , the owner still won't sell.

Why does this place look so familiar to me? I think it is in Calcutta and the mosque is the one on the way to Tollygunge Club. Plus the attire and the umbrellas. I could be completely wrong though but the mosque look very familiar.

Hi,

This is a picture taken at home with our 1935 Fiat Balilla, my dad at the wheel of the car in which he learnt driving at the age of 9 or 10 from what i heard! The picture was taken sometime in the late 70's or early 80's i presume. The car was sold in 1996 or so, completely disassembled, but with a running engine which my dad did up.

I have had to mask the faces as i have not had the chance to ask my aunts for their permission, but i hope it does not hinder the picture too much.

regards,

Srinand.

Found this picture on Facebook in the "Paigah's of Hyderabad" group.

Its outside Falaknuma Palace, can anyone identify the cars ???? The first car looks like an early Ghost

Looks like it was taken on the visit of British royalty

Nice picture Wasif.

I am thinking the first car is a R-R Phantom I.
If it is, Chassis 64EF (1926 Hooper Tourer; Nawab Moin-ud-Din Dowla) may be an option.

The gentleman receiving the salute looks tall - Viceroy Irwin (1926-1931) maybe ? I do not see the "Crown" on the car though, if he used it.

Cool....any idea what the other car is ? Looks like an American Sedan or maybe on of the many Humbers in Hyd ?

Here is another pic of a very early car from the same source. Its said to be drive by Raja Raghutam Rao...must have been from one of the Samisthans in the Nizam's Domain

Pity the watermark obscures the identity of the car

I believe this is Raja Deen Dayal photograph; and shows the Nizam's physician - I will have to dig through my archives to confirm. Is the car a Standard ???

Regarding the second car in the Fakalnuma Palace picture, I have no clue!

The obscure second car, in the first picture looks like a Studebaker President to me, late 1920ish.

The car in the second pic is certainly a Fiat Cabriolet Royal of the early 1900s. I could be wrong, but Evian in the evening sometimes does wake up a few somnolent cells in the maturing cranium, so never know!

Thanks Prabal.

There are also pictures of thsi highly unusual six wheeler ceremonial car any ideas what this moster could have been ? Looks like it was locally assembled but what was the donor car.

Its execution is quiet professional in looks. The sweep of the front mudguard in the second picture looks so much like that of a Ford Model A

You are welcome, Wasif, and thank you too.

Well, relying on the clinking of the empty Baccarat at this hour, I think the donor car here is in fact a truck, most probably a Chevrolet 1.5 tonner from the late 1920s ('28, '29) to maybe 1930-31.
