Hi,

I was reading a very interesting book called "Indian Summer" which has a lot of references to cars in text, a few pics as well.

Good evening all.
I have today received a couple of beautiful old photos (scanned from newspaper cuttings from the 1940s or 50s I would guess) that I though I must share here.
One is Calcutta and one is Allahabad
Cheers
Cedric

A Parsi friend of mine has a family album which I have been asking him to take out since more than 4 years. His dad, now sadly no more had shown it to me and there were old pictures with cars in them. But as I was not collecting car pictures at that time, I saw and left it. Now I wanted to have the pictures to copy for my collection.
Well, finally he gave me the album and I went through it. I got a little surprise as there was an Austin 7, names were mentioned and "Dalton Soda Factory" was mentioned. These folks were related to my friend and this factory existed in Hyderabad in 1933, how much longer it stood I do not know. The surprise was because I was offered a similar framed picture from Chor bazar, it being very expensive and just an Austin 7, I left it.
Just by chance my Bazar guy came back after 2 months and I reminded him

Quoting from 2009, I just saw this post yesterday and it struck me that this car is a Morris minor and not an austin, I wasn't sure, so I discussed it on the pre war minor network, and they are also sure that this is a minor.

Here is an image of the morris tourer from the 1930 brochure

The second car (Packard) is Prince of Berar / Hyderabad.

The R-R (picture is reversed- LHD!) is the ex-Bharatpur PII, Chassis 121GY. We have seen this car before thanks to Julian, when she appeared in the movie Queenie.

Shyam,

The 1916 Swift is well known car and is part Vijay Mallya's collection. You seem to have forgotten
