I find that MG's with whitewall tyres look odd. Something does not quite fit. Maybe have to get used to it.
BTW, is your car a recent purchase, or old family treasure. And is it complete? When you ask for parts, you must say what you want. Because there are parts specialists, and then there are specialists for a particular make only. Lets drop the suspense, otherwise we will about it.

Cheers harit

I have to wholeheartedly second your opinion Harit. Infact I would go to the extent of saying no European car looks good in whitewalls. For I while I thought Jag 120's in ivory and whitewall looked good but somehow I find the car with blackwalls so much nicer to look at.

Its such an American thing.

God Bless America! Where "Bigger was Better." Hardly see them any more.

I agree that most of the European cars do look better with out white walls.
On some of the 50's onwards sedans they can look ok, my 62 Fiat 1100 being one of them, but for sports cars defiantly not as they take away the Macho look.
I had a friend who years ago gave his wife a set of white walls for her XKE and on her they looked great, but when he was driving it, it seemed to put his masculinity in question.

Any one have some photos of what might be considered inappropriate use of white walls?

I would agree on this point now.Last year when we were ordering the tyres for our mercedes prithvi (mbz180) & I had thought we would order white walls and thought that it would look nice on the car but my father saved the day and said that he doesn't want white wall and now come to think of it, it was a good decision taken.

However i the white wall tyres look good on the Amercian cars of the 50s & 60's.

There are quite a few here John. There's that low mileage RR from Poona and also the Udaipur car with hand controls. Even Momen's green 25/30 looked prettier when I last saw it with blackwalls. The car manages to just about pull it off with the whitewalls now but somehow I never like the look of a RR with whitewalls.

On most American cars the design itself seemed to draw from the accentuation the whitewall gave. Our 37/39 Packards look best in whitewalls, whereas I feel our LaSalle still looks more butch with the blackwall

I guess we can't generalise but overall the European cars had styling that never drew on the highlighted wheel.

I agree with DKG. If one recalls, there was a discussion about this early Rolls. It appeared thet it was fitted with whitewall tyres, but the stepneys appeared to be blackwalls. Till it was spotted that the stepneys were also whitewall, but reversed. This would prove that this model was made for whitewalls. And the same goes for a MG. Never saw them in whitewalls in the days of old, when these cars were still being used and not built as queens.
This is like a fashionable lady. We are no one to condemn fashions which we do not like, but we can certainly comment. And that is what we are doing. Indeed, whitewalls do look nice on some American cars, even Fiat's and Amby's, but that is because partly we are also used to seeing these in whites when new and when being used. My Amby has whites, but my MG does not.
In the end it is a personal choice, fashions do change, and they will.

Cheers harit

These 2 T series were new entrants (or atleast seen after many years) at the recent Bombay rally.
