Default "Doing a Mysore" again - Cars of Maharaja of Mysore

The phrase "Doing a Mysore" was coined by the executives of Roll Royce referring to the Maharaja of Mysore who bought his cars in batches of seven! We have seen and read a lot of cars from the Mysore stables across many threads and decided the consolidate the same into one thread. This thread will be collabration between Karl, Travancore and myself and any contribution from others are most welcome.

It is believed that the Mysore stable had 24 Rolls Royces and Bentleys at one time. The collection includes other great marks like Daimler, Hispano Suiza, Delahaye, Invicta, Lancia to name a few.

As per Wikipedia, The Wodeyar Dynasty founded a feudatory principality in 1399, which grew into the Kingdom of Mysore. The Wodeyars ruled that kingdom almost uninterruptedly between 1399 and 1947; they ruled initially as vassals of the Vijayanagara empire (1399-1646), then as independent rulers (1646-1799), and finally as allies of the British crown (1799-1947).

The Maharajas relevent to this thread are

1. H H (Nalvadi) Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV(1894-1940)

Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

2. H H Jayachamaraja Wodeyar (1940-1950)

Jayachamaraja Wodeyar Bahadur - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Over the next few days we hope to build this thread in collaboration and I look forward to the final out come.

Cheers

Default Mysore Coat of Arms

The Mysore Coat of Arms was the mythological double headed eagle "Gandaberunda". I would like to share with you the photos of a pair of gold cufflinks gifted by H H Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar to my great grand-father Kuppanda Muthaiah, Conservator of Forest.

These cufflinks show the wonderful Gandaberunda in its full splendor and also the intials KRW

Default 1919 Hispano Suiza H6B

Following is the details in wikipedia on the Hispano Suiza H6 as reproduced below.

The Hispano-Suiza H6 was an ultra-luxurious automobile from the 1920s. Introduced at the 1919 Paris Motor Show, the H6 was produced until 1933. Roughly 2,350 numbers H6, H6B, and H6C cars were produced in total.

The H6 engine featured a straight six engine inspired by designer Marc Birkigt's work on aircraft engines. It was an all-aluminium engine displacing 6,597 cubic centimetres (403 cu in).Apart from the new overhead camshaft, it was essentially half of Birkigt's aviation V12 design. The seven-bearing cranshaft was milled from a 600 lb (272 kg) steel billet to become a sturdy 35 lb (16 kg) unit, while the block used screwed-in steel liners, and the water passages were enamelled to prevent corrosion.
One of the most notable features of the H6 was its brakes. They were light-alloy drums on all four wheels with power-assist the first in the industry, driven with a special shaft from the transmission. When the car was decelerating, its own momentum drove the brake servo to provide additional power. This technology was later licensed to other manufacturers, including arch-rival Rolls-Royce.

Hispano-Suiza H6 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The following 1919 Hispano Suiza H6B from the Mysore Stable is currently housed in the G D Naidu Museum in Coimbatore.

This thread was a long time coming, thanks KPS.

Here are some Rolls Royces, painstakingly consolidated from previous posts on the forum, courtesy KPS and Travencore. More information is available in the links posted below the photographs

We shall start with the most well known of Mysore Rollers - the 1911 Silver Ghost Landaulette. Currently in the USA I believe.

Sorry for being Off Topic here but I noticed that all the cars currently at the Bangalore Palace have 1953 as their registration numbers.
Does anybody know the reason for the same??
