A reader from the UK has written in. About 15 years ago he bought this medallion from a jeweller, on which is engraved
royal automobile club associate.
cawnpore l.c and m.c club 9/3/30
automobileassociation allahabad

He is trying to find out any history of it or were it came from.

Has anybody heard of this in the past?

Life members of the AASI get this metal badge when they join even now. They also get the yellow AASI stickers. When I sold the Scorpio my metal AA badge went with it. I have one with me now but cannot mount it on the Yeti as there is no provision. So I make do with the stickers instead. Even in the Scorpio I had to get the local garage to build and weld a sort of slim metal tongue with a nut and bolt arrangement onto some metal surface behind the vehicle radiator and then mount the badge on it externally.

This is the original box for a speedometer cable for a Ford A.
It maybe worth to inform enthusiasts that the boxes of parts which are to be used on a car are also worthy of being kept as Automobilia. Sometimes there are instructions too.
Please don't just throw away these boxes in future.

Tomorrow we have the Marathon, a zillion folks running on the roads blocked for the event.

In 1964 there was the 28th International Eucharistic Congress in Bombay. This was a huge affair 9 days long, roads were blocked, others were made one-way, parking areas were created on maidans. For this event the Bombay Police even brought out a brochure on traffic regulation with a traffic policeman on the cover. This is a lovely photo, many of us have seen them in this uniform, but now there are hardly any pictures. Those shorts were not great. The harness being worn was actually able to hold an umbrella anchored at two points so that the cop could stand in the sun under an umbrella, and yet keep his hands free.
For tomorrow there is no brochure

Indian Film posters very rarely have cars on them, but while being engaged in one of my other hobbies i came across this poster with what looks like a packard clipper convertible? Was there ever such a thing. Also what looks like a early best bus.

Yes that's a 48 convertible. It's current is not known. But has taken its own role in many movies ! Used to be attended to in BANDH at one time.

Cheers

It isn't a Clipper, but what was I believe mockingly called the bathtub model - apparently not very successful. The car is seen in quite a few movies, I remember one movie where it was apparently moving around without a driver. It also briefly appears in the Rajesh Khanna starrer 'Avtaar'. There may have been more than one, around, one is with Harit, maybe the same car. I have seen another one, restored, black colour BML regn.

This is indeed the "Baandh" car used in many movies, it was even an ex-Maharaja car. It survives, restoration may be delayed, but she is definitely not scrapped. Owner lives in Mumbai.

I had not figured that the International Eucharistic Congress was the time when the Pope visited Mumbai. In fact, there was to have been a second Lincoln, a hard top which was black in 1979 and belonged to a catholic family where one son was with me in college. I had even seen that car at the Peddar Road pump. Has been sold on since long.

The convertible at one time belonged to the actor Prem Nath, it was lying on Mount Pleasant Road and was sold on to Pune.

Here is a map showing the traffic arrangements in south Bombay during that time. Bombay has surely changed a lot, name, reclamation etc.

In 1977 a vintage car rally was organised by Red + White. For best performance one Mr. Prem Kumar Mehra won a prize. There is a number "21" to be seen, and they talk of Thoroughbreds. This may have been mounted on some kind of wood, there are 4 pins behind the plaque. The background is a sofa covering.
There are some questions.
Where was this event held? Generally where did Red + White sponsor such events? Not Bombay as far as I remember, but one never knows.
Who is Mr. Prem Kumar Mehra and which car did he have?

Hopefully someone will remember.

Cheers harit
