Default Availability of Maruti Suzuki SX4 VXi 2012 model; how about 2011 model?

I am looking to buy a new SX4 VXi (manual transmission, petrol). Yesterday Mar 5th 2012, I went to Pratham Motors in Bellandur ORR in Bangalore.

I was told by the sales people that there is a 30-45 days waiting period for 2012 SX4 Vxi (petrol). Saying thus, they were trying to convince me to go for a new 2011 model, at a cash discount of about Rs 15,000 compared to the 2012 model.

Questions:
- Is it true that the petrol, manual transmission 2012 SX4 VXi has a 30-45 day waiting period? I thought only diesel models had such a long waiting period and that petrol models were available off the shelf
- If I were to go for a 2011 model, what should be the cash discount that I should try to negotiate?
- Are there any differences in features bween the 2011 and 2012 models?

I think that Pratham are just having you on. They probably want to clear off their stocks of 2011 produced models.

Negotiate harder with them because they will want to clear off their 2011 stocks before March 31st.

You should be able to pull off discounts upto the following (especially since it is a Petrol) - 15000 -20000 cash discount, 10000 corporate discount, free accessories and possibly bully them into giving you first year insurance free or atleast a part of it.

my friend got an all new swift zxi petrol delivered in 15 days ; so all this talk about 2011 sx4 vxi petrol commanding a 30-45 day waiting is gas.

as Shankarbalan suggested, bargain hard ; you can easily get benefits of upto 40k.

Personally,I'd request you to take a relook at other options available from within the Maruti stable itself.

Most likely Pratham has old SX4 stock which he is trying offload on you.

Try out other dealers and bargain hard. SX4 petrol hardly sells these days. And you can leverage this fact in your favour.

Also if you are okay with pre-owned there are some great deals going on SX4. SX4 petrol has poor resale and you can take advantage of the steep depreciation.

I would second JediKnight here! SX4 is a resale dud! You can find good used examples for relatively low prices.
The dealer is just trying to get rid of his available stock. 15k discount is pittance for a 2011 car since we are already in the third month of the new year! Id suggest checking with other dealers as it takes just 1.5-2 weeks for the car to reach the dealer once its booked by them.
I got a flat 50k discount when i bought a VVT zxi in Dec 09. The car reached mangalore in 2 weeks and it was the first VVT to be delivered down south.
IMHO, it would be better to pay that 15-20k and get a 2012 model so that when u sell it, you wont loose as much as you would with a 2011 model. If they give you a 35-40k discount on the 2011 car, it would make sense to pick up.

Cheers!

Normally the discount for the previous years model is around 40-50k so dont settle for anything less and yes they are trying to clear the stock. They are not having stock of SX4 thats why they are communicating higher waiting period.

Try Bimal, i my personal view they are slightly better then Pratham. For SX4 2011 stock the discount needs to be in the tune of ~50K otherwise it really does not make sense. Apart from this any Petrol car today needs to have some discount even the 2012 model you need to push harder.

If you are keen on 2012 model and Pratham is quoting a month waiting do look at other dealers.

If you are planning to keep the car for 4-5 years its being a 2011 manufacturing should not be much of a bother for you, anyway the vehicle will be registered in this year only. Though the discount as suggested by other seems to be pretty low.

Just for records while I was working with one of the dealership of Toyota we used to offer discount in tune of 1 lac on Corolla for last year manufactured model and even that used to be negotiable. So negotiate with them till the time they throw you out of the showroom, look at the brighter side you may end up getting yourself a "deal of the year". The money saved can be used for numerous other things e.g a nice ICE setup, a set of snazzy looking alloys or maybe a CNG kit.

Give it a shot.

In today's bangalore mirror there was a add saying SX4(P) has 55000 discount + Corporate offer. So, I think you should be able to negotiate and get a better discount for 2011 SX4.

I guess this is the 30K + 25K (latter for exchange bonus, only if you are trading in a car for making this purchase). I am not trading in any car, so I am just being offered the 30K + corporate discount. That still take the Bangalore on-road price to 8.78L - 0.3L - 0.03L, which is 8.45L for the 2012 SX4 VXi. This is still on the higher side I felt.

For the 2011 model, he was willing to come down to 8.3L and throw in some accesories (which I dont care much about).

Last year February, Kalyani Motors, Bangalore was willing to give me that 25K discount as well for SX4(P) even though I was not willing to trade my AP registered WagonR. They asked me to provide a Xerox of my RTO card so that they can consider me as a existing customer for that discount. So, if you are a existing customer then you can try to negotiate on this.
