Default Test Vehicle: VW Passat @ 15lac or New Toyota Fortuner

Hello Everyone

My friend needs some advice.
He decided to buy the fortuner.
He know someone in toyota, they can give him the fortuner in 10 days without any premium.

Someone he knew at VW dealership, offered a used VW Passat (test drive vehicle).
Car is July 2008 model, done 37000 kms.
They are giving full comprehensive insurance from the date of purchase.
They are demanding 16.5 Lac. He says he can get them down to 15 or 15.5 lac.

What do you guys think?

I know these are two totally different vehicles. My friend is fine with both the vehicles. He does not have any specific requirements.
He is currently driving a SKODA OCTAVIA.

I advised him against the test drive vehicle as they are abused pretty badly.

I would say a new vehicle no matter which one it is, is always better. Even more so in this case because the Run In phase (which is most critical) the car would have been abused like anything & that would lead a lot of issue in later times.

Please stay away from test drive vehicle. It will be used and really abused. Either get a passat from an individual who is selling the same or buy a new fortuner.

test vehicles are generally prone to a lot of abuse from a array of customers.
better stay away from it.
Fortuner already is a killer deal and seems like you dont need to wait in line like the others also.
Not to mention the killer resale it will command even 4 years down the line . Id say go for the fortuner.
But you might get a little annoyed later when you may see a lot of fortuners running around you

You really don't want to know how I TD'ed the Xylo. Best to stay away from TD vehicles.

You friend is very lucky to get the Fortuner in 10 days time. In most states they have closed the booking for the same.

Is that a silver Passat being offered to him?
I have seen one being a bit rashly driven running with TD plates (The red ones).

The vote says it all, if he is going to spend all that money, why waste it on an old car driven by god knows how many different people with varying styles of driving, i am sure that can't be good for the car.

A Test Drive 37000 Km Done Luxury Sedan - Passat @ 15 Lacs !!!

I'd say it is a real bad deal ! That would be the value of a normal used vehicle of the same date and probably a lesser reading on the ODO.

A TD vehicle is ripped usually by everyone and it is also used as a Taxi and Spare parts Mover and has had probably more dents and fixes than a DTC bus

I'd say go for a New Fortuner - without a premium or waiting period is too good a deal.

Thanks for the inputs.

I suggested his fortuner as well.
He has dropped the idea of Passat.
