Thanks to BHPian H@r$h@l for sharing scoop pictures of a Ford EcoSport at a Mumbai dealer.
This particular example is a Titanium variant and apparently a demo car that will remain parked in the dealer's yard for now. The dealer plate reads MH43, indicating that the pics have been clicked at Bhavna Ford in Navi Mumbai. As if to take full opportunity of the situation, Bhavna Ford has already started accepting bookings at Rs. 25,000.
Ford is currently fine-tuning supplier logistics and is poised to launch the EcoSport in the March - April period. More importantly, the company absolutely needs to price the EcoSport well. An overoptimistic pricing strategy didn't work with the new Fiesta which bombed right upon launch. Ford will be hoping for some good news in the Union Budget, post-which it will finalise on prices. Because the EcoSport is a sub-4 meter vehicle, it qualifies for the lower excise duties applicable to small cars (12% instead of 24%).
From its current portfolio of 4 cars, only the Figo brings the volumes home. The EcoSport is everything to Ford right now, especially as chief competitor - the Renault Duster - has maintained a monthly sales average of 4,349 (August 2012 - January 2013 period).
