Range Rover Velar launched at Rs. 78.83 lakh

Land Rover’s Range Rover Velar has been launched in India at prices starting at Rs.78.83 lakh (ex-showroom India). The Velar is available in four trim levels – base, S, SE and HSE. Deliveries will begin from end of January 2018.

Velar is the fourth model in the Range Rover line-up. It was first unveiled on March 1, 2017 in London. The Velar combines styling elements from the Evoque and the Range Rover. The overall length of the Velar is 4,803 mm and its width and height are 2,145 mm and 1,665 mm respectively. It has a wheelbase of 2,874 mm and the ground clearance is 251 mm. It has a 673-litres boot which can be increased to 1,985-litres with the rear seats folded down. The unladen weight of the vehicle is 1,829 kg and can tow up to 2,500 kg. The Velar has a wading depth of up to 650 mm (air suspension), maximum approach angle of 28.89-degrees, ramp angle of 23.5-degrees and departure angle of 29.50-degrees.

The Velar gets matrix laser LED headlamps which are adaptive and use the front facing camera to adjust the beam based on the oncoming traffic. The rear features wraparound LED tail lights and a glossy black garnish that runs along the length of the boot lid. It is the only Range Rover which comes with retractable door handles.

Inside, the Velar gets dual-tone treatment and a minimalistic dashboard. The centre console houses 2 touchscreens – a 10-inch unit for the infotainment system and other for the 4-zone climate controls. It comes with digital instrument cluster and a full-colour head-up display. Configurable ambient lighting is an optional feature. It comes with 20-way adjustable driver and passenger seats with memory function and can be heated / cooled. The infotainment system is an 825 W Meridian audio system with 17 speakers.

In India, the Range Rover Velar is offered with three engine options – 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine with 177 BHP / 430 Nm, a 3.0-litre, V6 diesel which produces 296 BHP and 700 Nm of torque and a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 247 BHP and 365 Nm of peak torque. All engines come paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive and optional Terrain Response 2.Β 

In addition to that, the Velar comes equipped with various driver aides and safety systems like torque vectoring, dynamic stability control, roll stability control, adaptive dynamics, low traction launch, active rear locking differential, hill descent control, advanced tow assist, powered gesture tail gate, rear parking aid with 360-degree camera and cruise control with speed limiter to name a few. Electronic air suspension with automatic access height is offered as an option.
