All the guru's here am looking to buy a flash for my camera. Any suggestions ? I don't need anything expensive for my kinda shooting. Something that would suffice in low light situations would be helpful.

yes but it is 1 stop too slow. 1 stop can be huge at that end.

Vivitar 285HV - 4.5k and does the job. No TTL metering though but its really not that big a deal as you can vary the flash power.

which camera do you use? Nikon has a decent low priced flash (SB-400) for around 5k. Canon ones start higher though.

Hello everyone ,I am thinking of getting a camera my self.The priorities are:

Type:Highend P&S(Prosumer eg:Canon SX5IS) or a DSLR
Budget:25000-30000
Brand:Any
Purpose:Casual family photos,cars,landscapes

The main criteria of my purchase is that it should provide good results in low light conditions and I have very shaky hands.Dont wand to end with images as such

I was thinking of the high end P&S but later found out that even the low end DSLR are available at the price.I would prefer the cam to support sd cards.Kindly suggest the best cam for me.At present my camera for the past 4 years is this http://http://www.dpreview.com/revie...x_optios30.asp .

^^ Everyone has shaky hands, if you are shooting in low light conditions, you would need a tripod none of the cameras are low light friendly the reason is slow shutter speed & long exposures ( correct me if i am wrong )

Low light = ? ( the pic you posted seems too be a motion blur pic, i'd call ambient light indoors low light )
SX1 is you mean? SX5IS doesn't exist!

I do not know much about dSLRs, but even a low end dSLR would blow any high end P&S. While a high end P&S could be good as an entry level SLR under ideal conditions, a dslr would have a much broader spectrum. One can jack up the ISO in dslr, but P&S would let you know that you are taking a liberty. So, A SLR would be more effective in low light conditions.
A dSLR (Canon 1000D( or Nikon D40/ Canon 400D)) + a 50mm f 1.8 lense would be a good combo.

If you are looking at P&S's check out Nikon P5100/P6000. Apparently, it has good image stabilisation and good performance in low light.
Nothing as good as a dSLR for good pics & nothing as good as a tripod for sharp pics.

Another one G10 from canon. Not sure about price, but much better than sx10s. Only might miss the crazy x10 zoom in G10.

A dslr, 1000d with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS should also do the trick.

I cant help you much with that, im sure many from here can!

don't know enough about dslrs. If I were you I'd stick to canon(1000D/XSi) or nikon(D40/D60), get a 18-55 IS/VR lense and also a 50mm f-1.8 lense(its a good lense & not expensive).

You can also look at Panasonic DMC-G1. If you are buying of the grey market, check with Tokyo-Japan centre, Haridas market for availability.
