Okinawa Autotech - an electric two-wheeler manufacturing company, has showcased a prototype e-motorcycle - the OKI 100 and the lithium-ion battery version of its flagship e-scooter - the Ridge at the 2018 Auto Expo. It has also displayed the lead acid battery version of the Ridge and the Praise scooter.

While Okinawa is based in Gurgaon and has its manufacturing facility in Bhiwadi (Rajasthan), the company has been named after a Japanese island, which is lush green and free of air pollution.

OKI 100 is a prototype e-motorcycle with a lithium-ion 72V 63Ah battery with the maximum speed of 100 km/h:


This is no fuel tank, but there's a keyhole. Unlocking it reveals a detachable lithium-ion battery. The company claims that the bike is capable of running a distance of 150 km on a single charge of 2 hours. Overall fit & finish leaves a lot to be desired:

Ridge e-scooter has been introduced with a detachable 60V 24AH lithium-ion battery. It is powered by an 800 W brushless DC motor and top speed of 55 km/h with a range of 110-120 km:


Okinawa claims that its vehicles are approved for Indian roads by the International Center for Automotive Technology (ICAT):

Charging point is found on the body just under the seat. Charging time = 80% in 45 minutes:

To access the battery, one has to lift the seat and remove the storage bin:


Charging points may not always be available where the scooter is parked. Here the detachable battery is useful. One can simply take it to a charging point along with the charger (seen above) and plug it in for charging. Battery has a meter indicating the charge and a socket for the charger to plug into:


Ridge e-scooter with VRLA battery. Charging time = 4-6 hours. Top speed and range are rated at 55km/h and 80-90 km respectively:

Praise e-scooter is powered by a 1,000 W brushless DC motor. It has three drive modes - economy, sporty and turbo. Power output and top speed are rated at 2,500 W and 75 km/h (in turbo mode). Range = 170-200 km:


It is only available with a VRLA battery at present. Charging time = 6-8 hours. The company is planning to introduce a lithium-ion battery version in the future though:


Equipment includes LED headlights, LED rear lights, alloy wheels, side stand sensor, central locking with anti-theft alarm, keyless entry, find my scooter function and disc brakes at the front and rear:

Does anybody know the antecedents of this company? Claim to be 100% desi but a lot of it seems too good to be true at the price, so where does their tech come from? They had an east asian looking person at the launch of their scooter a few months ago, so I am wondering if this is just a badge engineered and locally assembled Chinese product (rather like the "Indian" phones in the early days that were Chinese in all but name)?

Just found a T-BHP member's post on the Okinawa scooter. Seems he bought one and it's nothing but a rebadged chinese scooter from a company called Luyuan.

Just in case anyone wants to buy the Oki 100 before the launch you can buy it straight from the manufacturer - Luyuan.

My only concern is that why are these manufacturers taking Indian customers for a ride, my friend met the Okinawa team at Auto Expo and they said clearly that this is Japenese technology and all their R & D is done in their plant.

I believe this calls for a stricter norm for communication done by auto companies.
