Re: Mahindra Great Escape Shahapur 2011

What were you driving? any pics u took? So basically did what they had done in the last MGE. But in the last MGE EXO participation meant that there were many retrievals without so much headache. Also the last year's MGE was much later so the rains had already done their bit which made matters worse or actually better

LOL, that looks really hideous!! One touch....direct impact on chassis......Chassis bent!! As it is im not an advocate for roll cages being attached to the chassis.

Whats that square black box behind the fog lights? Is it part of the Winch motor? Why is the Insect guard halo-ed?

Black box is the winch solenoid control box.

Behind the white patch is the electric fan. White it is painted white is anybody's guess. Must be ARAI specifications

Re: Mahindra Great Escape Shahapur 2011

First time out at an event like this- and the 2WD group had as much drama with their vehicles...

The patience of the staff in attendance and the support and spirit of other participants made this a complete escape.

Attached are a few pix of Number 45, sliding off into a culvert and then the effort to drag him back on the road.

Thanks for a wonderful weekend ride.

And about them Thars- I couldnt resist-

Many Thars came from places afar...
Some for the party, some for the rescue.

The best great escape that I have attended since starting going to these events 3 years ago. The track was tough but only lightly so. There was no rain, but boy was it raining Thars. There were as many Thar's as other vehicles among the 40 or so 4wd participants
As I said it was raining only Thars. There were Thars in front and Thars behind. They were everywhere

Cant say the trail was tough though it was nice. Good fun trail. Mr. Bhosale was saying that the 2wd trail was a lot flatter and yet pretty challenging for the 2wd participants, especially the noobs!!. We did quite a bit of slush, a bit of rockies and a couple of river crossings. Most of the trail was slush though. I guess if it had rained (not Thar's) the route would have been more challenging.
It was nice meeting you 53 BHP! Seperation of 2wd & 4wd track was long pending. Participants enjoyed it. It was logistical nightmare for us, but it was worth it as people enjoyed it. All in all there were about 90 vehicles on trail. Imagine all of them on a single trail!

Wish it had rained more, terrain would have been much more challenging. But considering we had to wind it up by 2.00 to 3.00 p.m it was perfect!!

And yes...it rained THARs!!

Thanks garret, when we went on recee water was till bonnet level. Almost 4 days no rain. In a way it was better, we had no hydrostatic lock :-P

the track was so so, not too difficult, i think the lack of rains since the last two days made it all the more easy.was fun meeting all the guys out there.
good part this year was that since both tracks were separate we never had a lot of waiting to do on the track
one more point

but a much better organised event this time

Allan
Hey allan,
Thanks for coming man! Believe it or not this time we had 39 4wd's and 29 2wd's and clear reversal of trend. Glad people are buying 4wd's!! Plan to do even better job in chikmangalur. Wanna come?

Where are tons of pics from you baba?

Gogi bhai,
Last years trail was perfect for 4wd's! But you remember what happend to half the participants? They had to turned back.Didnt want the same situation repeat this time.

Missed your petrol 3B this time.

The roll cage wasnt attched to the chassis directly. The side members were on the extensions below the door and the front end was bolted on a plate with rubber bushes to accomodate flex. No where it was directly welded on chassis.
AGree looks of this vehicle wasnt to every one's taste. Some liked it and some didnt.

Re: Mahindra Great Escape Shahapur 2011

Dear Vinod

The separation was more than welcome. The saturday date instead of Sunday even better. Steiger and I got our Jeeps washed at a service station just as soon as we hit the highway just after Jindal. Still we got home by 4.30pm and had the whole of Sunday to relax. Perfect. Super well organised (next time though please rig up the microphones proper)

Rohit

Hi Vinod, was al ready but got Viral at the last moment, else would have been there, even as a passenger. Yes i remember last year the rain Gods played havoc and though there was much adventure, everyone enjoyed it. I cant remember having so much fun in the muck anytime else. This time the separation of trails was a great idea and that meant both categories could participate though i presume, the lack of rains made the 4WD trail seem much easier, than what it would have been, had it rained a little.

My Cj would have loved to participate, along with my MM550. Next time for sure

Agreed Sir. One man's meat is another man's poison.

But on an external cage not attached to the chassis, wouldn't it make the body more susceptible to damage? Are there crumple zones on the Thar? If yes then that makes sense. Somehow not upto my taste but then its not my vehicle

Re: Mahindra Great Escape Shahapur 2011

I wasnt commenting on the Thar assuming it was a chassis roll cage and this how nearly it would turn out (could have been better) - but now we know this wasnt a chassis cage- only a tub cage - HIDEOUS!!!
