re: Off-Road in Chennai-- Thunder Down Under 2011

Oh BTW, let me add about the terrain:

A slippery [due to recent rains] terrain that is best conquered in slow speed.
NDMS tyres preferred, but AT tyres could also do the job. Gypsies need caution!!

Please wear shoes and full pants as there is a good possibility of snakes slithering in the terrain.

A tow cable necessary for each vehicle, especially if it does not have a working winch!

Breakfast as we go along the way at the usual spots! Please carry adequate drinking water and other fluids for your vehicles if necessary!!

re: Off-Road in Chennai-- Thunder Down Under 2011

The description of this terrain sounds pretty intimidating but would my Endeavour have real problems with it? I cant come right now given that I havent yet got a rear tow hook, tow strap or AT tyres but will have them all sometime soon so will join on future OTRs if permitted. Until then just joyride on the beach every once in a while

Also just 1 OT question: I know where to get a Hi-Lift Jack but can it be used on the Endeavour and how useful would it really be? I didnt think I could use it without damaging something so just wanted to check. Maybe if I remove the side step boards the chassis might be accessible. Not sure.

Good luck to all of you on the OTR and may your machines be safe.

re: Off-Road in Chennai-- Thunder Down Under 2011

Would like to join in, provided I reach the meeting point in time. Anyone coming from Guindy, Saidapet, Mambalam Area so that I can tag along? I will be coming from Pallavaram side and I'm not too sure about the Tidel Park location (heard it is somewhere near Taramani)

Spike

Hi Prateesh,

Take a bus from Pallavaram to Madhya Kailash/CLRI or Cancer Institute/IIT-C.

OR Take a Bus and get off at Nadanam Signal/Namdanam Art College/Temple Towers. Be there by 0715hrs

OR Take a Train and reach Kodambakkam Station by 0700hrs.

I will pick you up.

Regards,

Arka

re: Off-Road in Chennai-- Thunder Down Under 2011

Thanks Arka, the bus option will be pretty time consuming and would necessitate me to get up early. I think taking a train to Kodambakkam will be easier for me. I will confirm my presence soon.

BTW what is the terrain like?

Spike

Hey Spike,

Thanks - We will make you the Chief Guest of the event. We are honoured to have you around.

@Endaevour333 aka Vishnu: Please try and come to the OTR to see what your endaevour can be put through.

The rear tow hook not being there is not much of an issue as long as you have the springs.

Come on, Bring your machine and try your luck

Headers, thank you! I am so glad you all are willing to involve my Endeavour. Please count me in for the OTR! Will air down my tyres as well at the nearest petrol pump.

The last time I aired them down I went with 17psi front, 15psi Rear (stock is 32 front, 30 rear) due to the weight distribution. This seemed to work well on soft beach sand but please advise if the same is advisable for this terrain.

I live in Alwarpet next to the Park Sheraton Hotel so if anyone needs a ride or wants to tag along with me please PM me and we can coordinate.

Very much looking forward to my first official Team-BHP OTR and to meeting all of you

- Vishnu

Vikram, even that 10% probability is without my Gypsy, since I havent been able to replace the rear-springs yet.
