Navan, age and absence of Jeep is not a problem at all. I have neither of them, still hopped in. If you are interested, get in touch with the Chennai gang for future outings.

Re: Off-Road in Chennai-- Thunder Down Under 2011

Hi All! Just went through the entire thread and feel sad to have missed being part of it! I read that there's going to be next outing somewhere in the 1st week of November. I've already applied for about 4-5 days leave during the 1st week of November (to break the boring work routine ) and would like make good use of it by joining you guys!

Please let me know if there is any outing planned in November 1st week. I'll need a lift though as I don't have any jeep. Can't take car or bike as it is not allowed! Thanks in advance!

Thank you for organizing the OTR Vikram. I just have some questions about this trip and would be grateful if anyone could clarify:

Where is OTR venue in day 1 and what is it like?

Any links to a report of a previous trip to the location?

Will the OTR be similar in style to the kelambakkam OTR we did where we just go to one location and do several obstacles around us or will it be a trail type OTR?

Also where is this AZ camp site place?

Thanks a lot,

-Vishnu

Blue Thunder,

The last set of pics show a very flat track, where 4X2's could go through, is it the angle of the camera that makes the course look so tame?

Hi, fazalaliadil,

Those are the rest areas for the 4X4s and drivers after doing the tough obstacles .

The pics I took are mostly random pics, not the ones of the actual obstacles, since I have taken videos of the same. The videos are getting uploaded in youtube. I shall put up the details here shortly, once the last couple of videos are uploaded.

Thanks!

The OTR of 09 OCT 2011 was a very enjoyable one, fun-filled and we also had a Ford Endeavour 4X4 AT and Thar CRDe joining for the first time.
I also finally got to meet SPIKE ARRESTOR in person. It was nice meeting you, SPIKE ARRESTOR !

This OTR followed the usual Kelambakkam OTR plan : meetup at TIDEL, breakfast at a hotel at Kelambakkam and onwards to the actual OTR spot. I was late and I also did not have my Gypsy, so drove down to neoranjit's place, left my Alto there and hitched a ride with Vijay to the breakfast spot. Had a heavy breakfast (double pongal/vada/coffee), since one can never be sure how long the OTR will last. Checked out the vehicles present and met our usual gang plus the new-comers.

Then, we all drove down to the OTR spot. The OTR went well , with Arka first briefing the newbies, and then everyone getting on with the obstacles.

At this point, I ran out of space on my memory card. I had to use a standby one, which was a bit defective, so please bear with the video noise in the following videos.

"Izzat Ka Sawaal" - Obstacle 4 at Kelambaakkam II - Forward loop - Arka MM540 and Sanjay in Thar CRDe

"Izzat Ka Sawaal" - Obstacle 4 at Kelambaakkam II - Reverse loop - Vikram in his MG 413W

"Izzat Ka Sawaal" - Obstacle 4 at Kelambaakkam II - Reverse loop - Sidharth in his Thar CRDe 4X4 - Part I

"Izzat Ka Sawaal" - Obstacle 4 at Kelambaakkam II - Reverse loop - Sidharth in his Thar CRDe 4X4 - Part II

"Izzat Ka Sawaal" - Obstacle 4 at Kelambaakkam II - Reverse loop - Black MM540 driven by Mohammed Ali, followed by Arka/MM540XD, followed by Sanjay David in Thar CRDe 4X4

I ran out of space in the standby memory card as well during the middle of this video : the CJ3B did complete the loop.

"Izzat Ka Sawaal" - Obstacle 4 at Kelambaakkam II - Forward loop - Blue CJ3B

That's it from my side !

The post-OTR extended luuuunch was good fun as well !

Went off roading yesterday With SonnyCK and a bunch of other SUVs including a Toyota Landcruiser on a great beach and forest trail. Amazing fun. After we got out of the trail did this 1 intimidating looking obstacle. Videos show me going up and down the slope. I didn't think I could make it back up at all.

On this one I had done it much easier on a previous attempt but this time did not use as much momentum at the beginning to make it a bit harder and lost momentum at the top due to my turning the steering wheel side to side trying to maintain a straight path. Still made it though.

Really enjoyable SUV trail for anyone interested next time. It was basically the trail for the ATVs at Offroad Sports ECR but we took the SUVs on them and it was great fun. Endeavour Breezed through the trail torsen LSD must definitely helped.

Was this destiny? When the Thar CRDe joined for the first time, I was also present for my first OTR in Chennai.

The Thar did it without use of A,B and C . If only my friend Vinod were to bring a HT and AC..
