Re: The Royal New Year Escape

Hi, I can see a XUV500 ( must be AWD variant ) in these 2 photos. Any idea how it performed on the sand dunes.

Re: The Royal New Year Escape

dockap,
XUV surprised us with its all road capabilities. It flew on sand and 140 bhp on tap was evident. However when it got stuck lack of low range ratio was felt. XUV is a soft roader and will do much more than what you expect out of it.

Hi Vinod,

Gud to hear about XUV AWD performance. I think my wait of 5 months for AWD is worth.

When you say it performed well on sand, does it include the sand dune climbs also or its just the flat surface, where actually it got stuck ?

Did you guys checked the condition of clutch for rear axle after the event. I had seen the cross section of it in auto expo and I was just wondering how much beating it can take if used for longer duration.

cheers!

Alok

Arka, the roll-cage ensures that M&M Adventure does not roll much (this reasoning is for bosses).

Vinod, I notice that you have finally started using better tires on the recovery Boleros, what size and make are they?

Also good to see the ever smiling Sawant kaka in the background.

Re: The Royal New Year Escape

Hi,

I am interested in the Mahindra Royal Escape Classic from 26th Dec 2012 to 1st Jan 2013.

However, just spoke to the Mahindra Adventure toll-free no. and am surprised to know that one is NOT allowed to take their own Mahindra vehicle. The cost is INR 50K and for two people that comes to INR 1 Lakh, including car, lodging, boarding, etc. Basically, only fuel and toll is excluded.

Can anyone please confirm the above whether it is correct or not?

I am quite surprised by this. I cannot imagine going on such an expedition on Mahindra provided Thar when I have my own. Kind of defeats the purpose of owning a Thar!

Yes, that's true. You don't need to bring your own vehicle and it is provided for. The costs include the vehicle, stay, food etc. Only fuel & toll you have to take care of.

We did this last year with friends and it was super fun.

Yup, I got that. But what if we WANT to take our own Mahindra vehicle. Is that an option?

I only see myself doing this expedition if they allow me my own Thar.

Any inputs?

Re: The Royal New Year Escape

They came, they saw, they conquered. The Royal Escape team enjoyed six full days of driving through the interiors of Rajasthan by some of the most spectacular landscapes, bashing the Sam Dunes in Jaisalmer, living like the Royals in the Alsisar Palace, fireworks in seamless desert on a moonlit sky and much more. Take a look at the pictures

Re: The Royal New Year Escape

Vinodsir, the pics as always are mind blowing.

Any chance we could get a higher resolution of the pics (especially the last pic in Post#41). I would like to keep it as a wallpaper as to remind me why i am in dubai (to get myself a MM550/Thar)

Re: The Royal New Year Escape

Excellent pics, vinod_nookala. One question as I am curious to know. Did the Scorpios face any problems with their electric 4WD system? It's been reported that this happens on almost every Mahindra Great Escape, so any feedback would be appreciated.
