As per FIA specs the Roll-Cages need to be bolted on to the Chassis. This is the biggest challenge and hurdle while installing a roll-cage.

Hence we suggest the simpler design used in the Mahindra Classic/Thar CRDe.
Arka, good initiative.

The Roll over bar used on M&M vehicles had a prime reason -

The B pillar was weak or non-existing -- so seat belt mounting was a BIG problem for front facing seats (regulatory norm you know ).

These were mostly half roll cages. As during off-road, mostly there are 1-2 occupants in front, the efficacy of this roll cage becomes a question mark. I am sure it will prevent the rear portion from collapsing in, but front (??).

For design cues, interested people can also see the latest Major (CL550).

For a change, how about sharing your understanding of roll cages as you are very much into rallying and stuff.

May be your learning's from scrutiny and SS - what is good, better etc.

Spike

PS- A roll over bar is an important safety accessory but I must reiterate that an improperly done roll over bar will do more harm than good.

Hi Spike,

I was stuck on the ledge for quite sometime, as the skid plate was mangled the previous evening, and instead of skidding got wedged, and every push tug was rotating the JEEP into the drop.

So finally we winched it down.

Regards,

Arka

Re: TPC2012 - INDIA's Toughest Off-Road Competition

Adventure Sports is a quite, clean and nice place to stay, Pallar river bed is large never ending with all kinds of slopes and dunes, Chennai team is supportive and informative about driving tips on sand, Headers was having fun with his Gypsy making it look trivial and easy!. It was nice meeting in person all the login ID's that we are familiar with across multiple forums, Had a great time thanks folks.

Will share some Video links once uploaded.

PS:The SS needs to be called SoftSand, and they should also have some QS Quick Sand stage too

Cheers
Sunil

Re: TPC2012 - INDIA's Toughest Off-Road Competition

Hi, Chennai team,

It was wonderful experience on Palar sand. Cloudy sky and rain previous night made the offroading pleasant. Literally no sweat. Sand dunes are amazing.

Here are some pictures of the offroading.

MP Sreenivas was rocking on sand, till his 4wd stopped functioning. May be hub lock or axle issue. tugging his armada from sand sink was herculian task. Bringing his vehicle onto tarmac took 3 jeeps connected one to another with tow ropes like trucks plying in australia ( Road trains).

More pictures coming up shortly.

Attaching all the videos I have uploaded so far from the OTR. Even though it rained the previous night (which made the sand firmer and therefore easier), the obstacles were still difficult for most.

There is some more video of the winching that I haven't uploaded yet. Will upload that soon.

Re: TPC2012 - INDIA's Toughest Off-Road Competition

Saw some beauties at Maj. Roy's stable. I can understand Nissan One tonner being an offroader. But what is Horse cart doing along with 4 WDs. Any plan to convert it to offroader?
