Hi Arka,
Thanks for the update.
Really happy to see TPC moving towards the international standards.
Wishing the O-team all the best.

Am sure by now, all the potential participants would be fixing the roll cage as per the specified norms.

Just a suggestion, I guess the Helmets should also be mandatory as i have noticed in my gypsy; the roll cage is almost till the head level, any topple or hard sideways impact will have a direct hit on the head, even though the driver or navigator is tightly strapped by the seat belts.

And this is due to the gypsies has limited space to raise the roll cage. Not sure about other vehicles, but I guess its worth a check.

Regards
Robinson

Hi Robinson,

Thanks for the suggestion.

This problem can be over come in a gypsy by using a 6 point roll-cage, there by increasing the distance between A-Pillar & B-Pillar Hoops, and creating a bit more head room while giving additional support to the roll-cage.

This can be further enhanced with an additional hoop for mount the steat belts (4/6point).

If any Driver/Navigator wishes to use Helmet's they are definitely encouraged to do so.

However wrt. to TPC2012 and future requirements we will go ahead with a 4-Point roll-cage bolted to the floor plate.

Regards,

Arka

Re: TPC2012 - INDIA's Toughest Off-Road Competition

Robinson are you serious about using helmets in that heat all day.

ARKA mean all the 4 mounting points of the roll cage should be at the floor and not on the rear mud guard ?

How will open diffs Vehicles perform , are lockers needed to clear the SS.

Hi Sandeep,

The 4 Point Roll-Cage like the Thar CRDe & M&M CLASSIC are bolted to the floor Plate, the rear wheel arch/Mud Guard is also a part of the floor plate.

Lockers/LSD will definitely have an advantage over an Open Diff vehicle.

Arka

Sandeep,
I was suggesting from the safety point of view. Looking at the mandatory norms, am sure 2012TPC will be lot more challenging than the previous once.

I have a helmet which is fully bruised with just one small event, maybe 1/10 th of palar sitting inside a hard top gypsy, without even roll cage. I think helmet is a very good idea while driving SS atleast.

I honestly feel its a big compromise and i hope the marshalls will have some means to ensure the quality checks on these 4 point bars. Most of them are just shoddy jobs which at the best gives mental satisfaction.

To far away to be anything but a very interested reader. Would have loved a chance to jump in as organiser but no vehicle that will meet tough specs listed by arka.

Best of wishes to organising team to run this international class event.

Following all action avidly.

Hi Jaggu,

Most of the JEEPers/Off-Roaders are quite particular about what goes into their vehicles.

Since it is a safety requirement, most will do a little bit of R&D themselves.

If they need any further assistance we will help them in whatever means possible.

http://www.ccda4wd.com.au/images/Rol...ster060428.pdf

A roll-cage is classified by the no. of mounting points to the Body/Chassis.

The first priority of the Roll-Cage is to provide support around the B-Pillar Area, slightly above and behind the Driver/Navigator Seat.

This hoop need laterral support which is provided by additional hoops at the C-Pillar & A-Pillar Areas.

As per FIA specs the Roll-Cages need to be bolted on to the Chassis. This is the biggest challenge and hurdle while installing a roll-cage.

Hence we suggest the simpler design used in the Mahindra Classic/Thar CRDe.

Regards,

Arka
