PICS! Mudskipper, Coorg 2012. 4x4 Slush Race

Slush race was organized by the Zoomers club of Ammathi - Coorg. Chetan the winner of raid-de-bannergatta was the main person beyond organizing the event. The event was a diligently planned 4 kms of complete slush track within the boundaries of 10 acres of paddy field. It had proper articulated dips, humps, deep slush and most of all the boundaries of the fields acted as a heck of a wall to climb..

Pics of the recce:

All I can say is you missed it!!!

Continued ...

About the Event:
Event divide into 3 classes
Deisel Class - trophies to winners
Petrol Class - trophies to winners
Open Class - trophies to winners

Best time - Cash prices
1st - 20 k + 10 k worth performance upgrades
2nd - 10 k + 10 k worth performance upgrades
3rd - 5 k + 5 k worth performance upgrades

Entry fees was 5000/- per vehicle per class.

So at the recce, we figured out that the track was built for a jeep, so on the second thought we planned to participate with our monster known as Doberman. Firstly we were in splits as thinking of the entry fees, then we figure out that we need to support our pals who organized the event, so we went ahead and confirmed the participation.
Our team consisted of 4 jeeps, of which 2 held back due to non availability of right tires for the event.

Our Doberman - MM540

Another 540 with Tata 207 Axles and SPOA.

Yikes... SPOA is the 'in-thing' around coorg, eh? Nice to see sooo many SPOA'd jobs.

PS - you mentioned TATA 207 axles on 540? Was there a 4wd 207?

Delicious, absolutely mouth-watering stuff! Thanks for sharing. The terrain looks so, so good...I'm sure all of you had an absolute blast. 99% of the 4x4s I see have large grippy tyres , God help the ones with mediocre rubber in these conditions.

Salute to the Zoomers club of Ammathi for what appears to be a super event. How about sharing the timings?

Good stuff! Nice to see mud drag/race events becoming popular! Mud races are relatively less damaging to the vehicles as well.

Next time, I'll make sure I attend this event! I don't know why, but am developing a lot of love for off-roading these days!

Pictures are Breath-taking is all I can say!

What were the Tractor and FC Van doing in there? I understand the amount of Torque they can generate, but still!!

Tractor probably for rescue operations and it's an FC van (again presumably 4x4).

Hmm.... Brother even before SPOA reached Tbhp forum we had folks in Coorg and Maland area, sporting the leafs over the housing and carrying double the payload on jeeps and utility trucks..Come over to Coorg you'd find many of these and FC trucks.....

Sure will continue the post... Nope around 40% of the vehicles only had the right set of tires, the rest were all on HT's

Yeah it is relatively non-damaging since most of them get struck in the pit.. and burn their clutch thats all...

Tractors were the recovery vehicle, and the FC is a 4x4 vehicle which acted as a part of convey to the media people and also assisting in recovery..

So the post continues...

Of the 30 odd vehicles participated we saw most of them getting struck at the very beginning of the race. So the organizers had to pull the plug and cut short the track from 4 kms to around 2.5 kms.

0So at the end we saw only 16 vehicles completing the race of 32 vehicles.. others just couldn't finish the race..

The timing is as follows

Diesel Class- 4 min 13 sec - Our Doberman (2nd +45 secs, 3rd +170 secs)
Petrol Class - 3 min 35 sec - Gypsy king
Open Class - 3 min 13 sec - Gypsy King

Petrol class saw the participation of only one vehicle i.e Gypsy king and open class saw the foreign players unable scratch our mud !!!!
The best part was the Navigator was supposed to start the watch which was placed in the dais and then once the team finishes the run, he was supposed to stop the watch!!! So it was kind of fun to watch the navi's flying into the jeeps and flying out ..

So yeah we (twinn) taking the trophy for 1st position in diesel class..
PICS! Mudskipper, Coorg 2012. 4x4 Slush Race-40.jpg

The second placed, SPOA with 207 axels
PICS! Mudskipper, Coorg 2012. 4x4 Slush Race-41.jpg

Check our mech.. full on hyper!!
PICS! Mudskipper, Coorg 2012. 4x4 Slush Race-42.jpg

The team, the fellow in red shirt bagged the trophies for petrol and open class clocking the two best timings of the day.. He rode his gypsy to the max & finally burnt the clutch..

My first love of jeeps was from a visit to coorg to honey valley estate (Mr.Chengappa) - totally respect coorgis love and taste for jeeps, after all they cannot live without them, what city guys go in name of k&n and polk/jbl, the coorgis play with spoa and extreme jeep mods. Every year i make it a point to visit virajpet (i find madikeri more commercial) and drool over the jeeps!

PS - what tyres does your doberman 540 run on? 32 or 33", looks very large for the setup? It will suit a SPOA job perfectly.

M&M THAR with 32*10 mudzillas in a good drivers hands would be quite formiddable in this format id guess...coz its got the torque as well as the revvs, both of which is needed in abundance here.

35" BFGoodrich MT's on Gypsy wheels.. No money to get a good alloy... I am planning for a body lift, but no SPOA.
