Monastery Escape 2012

The ultimate Himalayan driving experience of the Monastery Escape was indeed the 'drive of a lifetime'. We traversed through mesmerizing valleys and various rough terrains of Rohtang, Morey Plains, Nubra valley, Leh, Khardung-la, & Zozi- La passes over a period of 10 days. The event ran to the standard of a professional expedition and participants enjoyed the delightful mountains thanks to well planned halts. Some captivating pictures of the Monastery Escape captured!

Some particularly informative shots of a river washing out a road. You guys who keep saying that Leh can be done in a Maruti 800, please take a close look at these shots. I hav been up there maybe 8 times and 4 times I have run into something like this or worse.

Thar looks like a good Himalayan trekker, Vinod. Good shots.

Re: Monastery Escape 2012

Thanks for sharing these amazing pics, Vinod!
Would the participants have got some time to soak in the nature (stop/enjoy the scenery/take some pics/take some deep breaths of fresh air etc...), during the drive?

Thanks DD. Sure there are plenty of Alto's and Wagon R's plying on these roads but i pity them. This is as stupid as driving a tatra 8x8 truck on a F1 track. 4x4 comes in so handy here as there is a severe power loss due to high altitude and we did run in 4wd low to save clutch while on a steep climb in stop go traffic on loose surfaces

Re: Monastery Escape 2012

Vinod,

This is just brilliant stuff, the location, convoy, vehicles and photography.

Not many words are required for this particular travelogue, the terrain the vehicles are driving through are so very well captured, a mesmerizing escapade through the mighty and beautiful Himalayas.
Regards,
