While I know this was about SUVs et al but the pics of the khakhi Jeep on the rocks takes the cake for me. Absolutely lovely Jeep and a lovely pose at that!

Is that a stock 540/550? My compliments to the owner.

I'm simply amazed by the Yeti! Its almost par with the other monsters! Did these vehicles suffer any damage at the end of the event?

Nope it is a SPOA Jeep with 31x11.5x15 Maxx Godzilla tyres. I agree with you though that the jeep looks absolutely amazing. Very clean and functional.

The Yeti was very limited by its lack of ground clearance. It was scraping everywhere but was not damaged. Because of the low ground clearance, we made the Yeti take the easier route through most obstacles. Very limited articulation as well. It was honestly never meant for any of this. The AWD was just meant for driving on slippery surfaces snow, etc. The main trail is pretty easy (vehicles like Yeti can make it easily) and we have obstacles on the sides along the way. These obstacles are completely optional and the owner can attempt them if he wants to. There are always easier lines to take for low GC vehicles so even Yeti owners can have a good time safely learning the capabilities of their vehicle.

Only damage was a small scratch to the Pajero sports foot step from a rock that the owner wasn't paying attention to. This could have been easily avoided. All other vehicles were completely undamaged.

What if you had an XUV 500, Scorpio or Safari? I'm surprised there are no such vehicles in this event. Are they not as capable as the endeavour or the jeeps?

Those SUVs would have been gladly welcomed to participate in the event had the owners been interested! And the Scorpio and Safari are definitely as capable as the Endeavour or the Pajero Sport. We started advertising only 2 weeks before the event so we didn't get enough peoples attention. I'm hoping that this time, especially with all the pictures we have, we will gain the interest and more importantly the trust of other SUV owners out there. Especially when they see pictures of Skoda Yetis and Hyundai Tuscons making it through the trail Event though the Yeti was scraping a fair bit, the owner is still keen on coming back for the next event! What a good sport.

Enjoying landscape and befitting trail.

Good pack of Vehicles and expert drivers. Must congratulate all for a successful venture.

But

Safety ignored. The open Jeeps are with driver and passengers without Seat Belts. Cannot comment about other vehicles. Any sudden braking or jerk could throw out the passenger. Any excuse of slow driving should not be accepted.
I do not forget my passenger smashing windshield inside out, injuring her head in the process - just because she did not put on the seat belt and I failed to notice it.

Adventure Zone is happy to present the Second edition of
SUV Off-Road Excursions -2013.

1. Date: 6th Jan 2013: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

2. This is a non competitive off road event. The trail has been designed to give SUV owners the experience of handling their vehicles off road.

3. Open to
a) 4x4 SUVs
b) AWD SUVs
c) 4 x 2 SUVs

6. Max 4 people per vehicle (including children).

7. Participation Fees: Rs 2,500/- per head including taxes.

8. No alcohol to be carried or consumed during the event.

9. No firearms/ weapons / contraband drugs to be carried.

10. Night stay on 5th Dec 2013 can be provided at an additional cost of Rs 500/- per head.

11. Last date for making payments: 2nd Jan 2013

12. No refunds.

a) Outdoor clothing: (Jeans/Shirts/Tees/Sports shoes)

How to get to Adventure Zone: Set ODO to ZERO while crossing Mahabalipuram on ECR. After 21 Km, you would have just crossed a long bridge with sand on either side, then you will see a big BLUE board pointing to the RIGHT toward Madurantakam. Take that right and follow the same road until ODO reads near 44 kms. At that point you will see a left with a bus stop in the corner. Take that left, head in about 300 meters and you will see the sign for Adventure Zone.
