I don't have many pics or videos this time on my phone but we had a professional photographer take pics. He will take some more time to process the pics he said but they are sure to be awesome when they're out. Event went really well and everyone had a great time. Especially the owner if the duster who got stuck twice will post a more detailed text update with whatever pics and videos I have soon. Have been busy traveling. Apologize to all for the delay.

Finally got a hold of some awesome pictures from the Jan 6th SUV Off Road Excursion, they are attached below:

We had fewer number of SUVs this time compared to the last SUV excursion but this allowed us time to do each obstacle several times instead of just once or twice. We had a FWD Renault Duster, a 2 inch lifted 4x4 Scorpio, my Endeavour, and Arka had also decided to wake the Nissan 1 Ton from its rusty hibernation. Only some small fixes were required for the 1 ton due to rats chewing the fuel line.

The Duster truly impressed me with its ground clearance and ability to do some obstacles even in 2wd, although with quite a bit of wheel spin. The ground clearance of the duster is superior even to the Landrover Freelander we had for last event.

Scorpio performed well, which was no surprise. It had Continental Cross contact ATs which are suprisingly aggressive AT tyres (similar to BF Goodrich TA/KO) and performed well even in the slush as a result. For people with SUVs that dont quite want to go for MTs but want a good aggressive AT, I would suggest these tyres.

The brave duster owner didn't care if the vehicle would get stuck or not but gave the obstacle a shot anyway. What a good sport. He got stuck twice but we made quick work of the rescue with the help of Arka's winch.

The Endeavour performed faultlessly as usual and made it through the deep slush even though it was the last vehicle through. I am extremely happy with the MTs and the Endeavour's overall off road performance. The key to learning the limits of your vehicle I feel is to take the obstacle as slow as possible and feeling your wheels slip and get traction again. Just gunning it up a slope in 2 seconds is not a challenge at all. Trying to make it up at a crawl by picking the right line, feeling the wheels slip, feeling the LSD working, are all part of the fun and the learning experience.

In addition to these 2 participating SUVs, there were the usual crowd of chennai Jeepers who came along for the ride. All in all, everyone had great fun, especially in the slushy parts of the track

Adventure Zone SUV Off-Road Excursions is a NON COMPETITIVE professionally organized event that lets all SUV owners safely explore the capabilities of their vehicles. The event will be held on the Weekend of March 2nd and 3rd together with the JEEP THRILLS ANNIVERSARY Off Road meeting so expect to see many Off Road modified Jeeps there as well that will be joining us on some of the trails.

DAY 1 (March 2nd): We will be taking the SUVs through some nice scenic trails next to a lake with shrub forests and mountains in the background. The main trail is suitable for 4x2 (2 Wheel Drive) SUVs as well, however, certain obstacles will have to be skipped by the 4x2 SUVs. All SUVs are eligible for this trail.

DAY 2 (March 3rd): We will be taking the SUVs through the vast sandy slushy PALAR RIVER BED. For this day however, only SUVs with 4x4 and a low ratio transfercase will be allowed because driving in the sand will require it. Example of such SUVs are the Fortuner, Pajero, Endeavour, Scorpio, etc.

You can participate in both days or just 1 of the days. If participating both days, night stay at Adventure Zone is recommended and can be provided at a very low rate.

ABOUT THE BASE CAMP: ADVENTURE ZONE:

The base camp for the event will be Adventure Zone, which is 90 km from Thiruvanmiyur on the East Coast Road or 85 km from Kathipara Junction on the GST Road. The site is set on 11 Acres of beautifully landscaped property in peaceful green countryside. Accommodation is in spacious air-conditioned Swiss Cottage-style tents with bunk beds and luxurious toilet blocks. The catering is in-house and excellent, with both veg and non-veg options. HOW TO GET HERE ON SATURDAY:

Google Maps Address: 37, Cheyyur Road, Village Zamin Endathur, Taluk Madhurantakam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu 603311 (Search for “Adventure Zone Madurantakam” on Google Maps)

Driving Directions from ECR: Easy Directions: Set ODO to ZERO while crossing Mahabalipuram on ECR. After 21 Km, you would have just crossed a long bridge with sand on either side, then you will see a big BLUE board pointing to the RIGHT toward Madurantakam. Take that right and follow the same road until ODO reads near 44 kms. At that point you will see a left with a bus stop in the corner. Take that left, head in about 300 meters and you will see the sign for Adventure Zone.

b) Caps/sunscreen/sunglasses
c) Do carry a towel, soap and a change of clothes as you might like to shower and change before leaving the campsite.
