Fortuners, Clay & Art of Pottery at Rajmachi Trail...

And with so much of clay around with plenty of spinning wheels what else would one become but fine potters ?

June 30, 2013. End of Q 1 - FY 13-14.

Today's pottery class has taught me many things. One that never take anything for granted. So I am not going to write this narrative in the usual style.

Next that others who contribute in making of the pot are equally important. Like those who point out where the clay is and get you to spin your wheels there and then say - "Hey ! We actually told you avoid that spot...!"

And so many other valuable lessons from the day...

Report would come along duly. But here are some snaps !

Firstly there was water to for the pottery class. Plenty of it in sheets coming down. And flowing around.

And then there was clay/mud/whatever. Plenty of it !

(No I did not eat anything from the roadside eateries to cause this mess - as may be otherwise perceived !)

And plenty of rocks for the grinding of clay.
Fortuners, Clay & Art of Pottery at Rajmachi Trail...-dsc02374.jpg

The approach was usual. But very rough as someone had partly started some work and now sharp stones remain.

And then someone tried stopping us. But we went ahead...and on the way back...

Report to be continued.

Would request my collaborators - Karan, Monaro, Manish, Ahmed & Kedar to start putting up their snaps and snippets !

Re: Fortuners, Clay & Art of Pottery at Rajmachi Trail...

As soon as I saw the first few snaps, Rajmachi came to my mind and so surely Kedar bared it before the suspense could go on. That reminds me, now I can take my Innova to Rajmachi which I had particularly avoided and which I did only on foot, and try put some learnings from Ladakh drive into it. Lets see. Keep the log rolling...thanks for starting and bringing out the monsoon excitement

It all began from the rendezvous point @ Airoloi toll naka at 6:00 am, from there we headed on to the expressway which was calm till the Forts arrived enabling us to reach Kamats as per schedule @ 7:30 am;

Re: Fortuners, Clay & Art of Pottery at Rajmachi Trail...

Brilliant beginning and some very good snaps! The track looks quite challenging.
Looking forward to more snaps and detailed report!

BTW, have heard about this trail multiple times, but never been there ..even on foot. Can one of you please share the map of the trail, especially the starting point?

Re: Fortuners, Clay & Art of Pottery at Rajmachi Trail...

And before we go ahead with the report it is essential to put up this note:

Disclaimer: In the thread and snaps therein none of the animals, if any & people appearing in the above referred to snaps were compelled to pose for the said snaps or compelled to act in any way contrary to their normal & natural behaviour. None of the animals or human beings were injured during the drive. No flora including leaves, flowers (if any in whole or parts - petals, sepals, stamens, pollen-shollen etc) were disturbed or raked about any time. All vehicles were/are PUC cleared and had no oil leaks or any other fluid leaks. None of the members had a leak or discharged any other effluent (liquid, solid or gaseous) on the trail despite the weather and nature of the trail which had incuded weak stomachs among some passengers accompanying the Fortuner drivers in some of the Fortuners. All materials taken in were taken out. All participants are trained to be sensitive about nature and their sorroundings.

Another Sunday put to good use !

The recent rains had created a mess on the trails. The clay soil made it more difficult over obstacles. Overall the difficulty level was higher than last year's trip.

Now, pics to do the talking..

@Guderian,kedarwalke,karan561,

You guys are having a blast with the Forts. Thanks a lot for the pics, seemed only the Forts can traverse through such adverse conditions.

Guderian - let us know how did the clay come off the driver side footwell/carpet (5th pic in your post). The disclaimer was

Whats going to be the next frontier to capture in this monsoon?

Note from Mod : Please refer the full name of the vehicle instead of using a slang. Thanks for your understanding

Re: Fortuners, Clay & Art of Pottery at Rajmachi Trail...

I must say the trail offered us - apart from the water, clay, sliding, gliding, spinning wheels etc - some fabulous vistas...

On the way in.

This shot of the highway from a point very close to Khandala.

These captures on our way up the Rajmachi trail & a break for shots the way back.

The shots on my way back.

Note my words. On our way up. On my way back. From plurality of efforts to singularity of mission.
The scenes on the way back were not shown above are truly exclusive. Not seen even by my own team members during the run.

And thereby hangs a tale...

On the way back I lost my way and took a different route. And instead of emerging from the Della Adventures side took a rather longish trail, alone but great fun though and very scenic, went through a smelly village and emerged from another end of Khandala.

And I am glad I was lost. The different trail and scenes were fabulous.

And why did this happen ?

Thereby hangs another tale. But for now enjoy the snaps !

What a coincidence, i took the same route and came out from upper deck resort and some gramin housing office. Guess we took a left instead of right at the exit point.

Re: Fortuners, Clay & Art of Pottery at Rajmachi Trail...

Aah, good to see the "Fortuners of the West" take off their suits for their battle fatigues!

Now why does that phrase reminds me of Tolkien, Napoleon and Hitler? Unfair, the bias towards the West.

Am extremely envious - wish I could have joined. Since I couldn't take part, sharing a photo of the Bison taken in another part of the country just to console myself.

Btw, did you use 4HL/4LL? Perfect for this OTR since this was slippery, so little chance of torsion.

Perhaps some of us will meet around a campfire at ~ 10,000 feet this year.

P.S. rated 5 stars
