Yes the rear wheel is actually missing and no the event does not happen that way. What actually happened was- It was the last special stage of Desert Storm 2011. Rajwinder, the guy who owns the gyp, along with his navigator Sumeet were just 3 odd kms short of the finish when taking a right hander real fast, the tail skid and the rear wheel hit a tree stump. The gypsy toppled and rolled over a couple of times. With the help of a fellow competitor and marshals they were able to come back on four wheels and when they started the engine, it fired. With just 3 km left and practically a smooth straight in the Rann of Kutch, they decided to finish the stage. Unfortunately 500 m or so the rear wheel flew off along the the hub. They stopped, picked it up, and carried on to finish the stage. You can see the rear wheel behind the cabin and don't think you can notice but the right rear wheel was also punctured and was shredded by the time they finished the stage. The photo is of him actually driving it on three wheels. |
