Late, but happy to share one the greatest experience we had during the 2014 West Java event, held in Indonesia (Date : 29th May to 1st June)

This was my third drive in west java event, every time I had participated with SJI team memebers, but this time it was special for me, as I planned to make a team from India and participate. Being a member of one of the biggest off road group (Suzuki Jip Indonesia) in Indonesia-Jakarta, I took the liberty of throwing this idea to Yuri (SJI Member) and he and Emma made everything happen for us. They were excited and keen for International team to participate in their local event.

Yuri proposed this to the group, and the chairman of the group and other dignified members welcomed this idea.

The biggest challenge they faced was sourcing vehicles, but two SJI members volunteered and offered their vehicles.

Here is the team India participants.

Robinson and Anton – Escodo MPFI with ARB front and rear lockers, crawlers and Simex (I have been driving this vehicle from 2009 on my every visit for every event in Indonesia, Thanks Emma for trusting me with your beloved IJANG)

Sam and Perm – Jimny 1.3 carb with rear lockers and Simex

Kurien and Javeen – Jimny 1 lt Carb with rear lockers, clawers and Simex

All very capable vehicles proven on various off road Adventure and competition tacks with all safety requirements.



All drivers from God’s own country and from so called Ktm jeepers!

West Java 2014 Details

This time the event was classified into two categories Heavy and Light. A total of 70 team registered which mean 210 Vehicles. Out of 70 teams, only 10 teams registered under light category, they were typically those long wheel base vehicles with minimal off road spec.

The track was divided into three. (A / B and C)

Track A: Extreme slush and narrow slippery inclines

Track B: Mild but heavy slush patches

Track C: Super extreme, a total of just 6 kms of off road stretch, but only 3 teams could complete this tack in three days. (Now that’s something serious I must say)

The man behind the extreme track Mr Syamsir Alam. He is known for designing super extreme and dangerous track.



Point System: The team needs to get two points and complete minimum two tracks to get qualified for the competition stage. But if any team completes Track C, they were eligible to participate for the competition stage, as it was super extreme.

Team India – Event Summary



Robinson / Kurien / Sam / Prem / Javeen

We started with Tack B, got flagged off first and completed in one and half days, started the Tack A Day 2 second half and completed 50% by Day 3, but as the track became super extreme, the organizers decided to cancel the last patch and we were asked to report at the final base camp. Must say we got lucky and were qualified for the final competition stage.

Competition stage had three Special Stages, We made good timing for Stage 2 and 3, but stage 1 we got timed out, as one of the Jimny struggled to climb the last incline and after multiple attempts, the vehicle refused to start.
Every team struggled and had similar or worst experience in SS 1, many vehicles toppled and were disqualified.

However, due to the good timing we made in other two Stages, Team India ranked 14th out of 53 participants. And we received the Team Spirit Award, for displaying good performance on adventure track and having good timing on the two special stages.

A proud moment for all of us not to go empty handed.

Congratulations really feels great when we hear our country represented

After testing all our vehicles, we trucked our vehicles to the event spot, which was 185 kms from Jakarta. The location name Bandunge, one of the best tourist locations knows form the live volcano mountains and very scenic cools place.
Along with our vehicles, we had two other vehicles from the SJI group.
