Yes, You are right. This Thar is a 2016 model, used to be a TD vehicle (scarcely used). The owner got a nice deal and he bought it as his secondary vehicle to use it for this kind of events.

when these kids push a car out of deep sand, they can actually fall on their face once the car starts moving.

In Offroad, Sand is one of the most difficult terrains to handle IMHO. Sometimes seasoned offroaders get stuck. The changes to the driving style has to be dynamic and quickly adaptive to the terrain.

Nice report. Loved the " Thodi yani kitni " Part.

BTW any offroad club or community in Surat ?

Ah, what a refreshing report of a fun filled OTR you had buddy!

Wow! I like this. No competition but yet time card and marking for all obstacles. Very nice!!

...We lost the record of how many time we decrease the air pressure. It was confusing. In fact, it was irritating that each and everyone was advising us to remove air. However, each and every time we removed the air, it actually helped us. ...

It was irritating. I shouted back..." airre par, thodi yane kitni ?( some means how much?)

This had me in splits. I could actually feel your predicament on how much air to remove. These are the memories you will cherish you years to come and these will become stories that you will share with friends years later. It's mostly from the stuck/unplanned experiences in OTR that we have the most fun moments from.

....Overall it was an amazing Sunday morning for us, where we learned a lot about offroading. We decided to participate in all the future offroading events organized by OCG...
Thanks again for sharing and making us part of this fun filled OTR virtually.

Re: Offroading excursion with the Offroad Club of Gujarat (OCG)

Lovely report with some exciting action pics.

I always find driving on sand more difficult than taking an obstacle. On a failed attempt to overcome an obstacle, we can always reverse back and try again, but a failed attempt on sand means you are mostly stuck!

It's always fun to be a part of an OTR.
Plus the learning's from an OTR help us a lot during our trips in a tricky situation.

What a superb report buddy! I felt like being at the venue when I read the whole report. Kudos to the photographer for perfectly capturing the moments.

Also have to give it to the organisers to plan such a big and elaborated event without any prizes. Perfect start for noobs!
I am not a big fan of off-roading, but I enjoyed reading your report alot which says a lot about your writing skills! Keep it up!

Thoroughly enjoyed reading the post. Brilliant pictures along with the write up made the reading experience ever better. Mentioning smallest details in the write up also worked well. Really good stuff. Thanks for sharing

Due to the quantity of sand, it was not possible that the vehicle suddenly starts moving. However, after some time we asked them to stop pushing.

Thanks, Samba. In this OTR it was actually the opposite. My mountains trip's experience was very helpful for this event.

Re: Offroading excursion with the Offroad Club of Gujarat (OCG)

Refreshing report after a while. We should have more and more offroading threads started. The first OTR's are usually the most fun. Once you learn the norms, the fun fades off, and you yearn for tougher obstacles/more learning, which isn't easy.

Also, general info - A 31 size tyre (Which is the most common) takes around 60 seconds to get deflated to around 15 -18 PSI assuming it's filled up at 30-32PSI. This is using just the key to deflate. In Sand without rocks or slow speed offroading, 15 or even less is the most ideal.

Great write up and pictures mate. The OTR seems well planned and executed. The “thodi hawa nikaal do” advice was both funny and true. What rim and tyre setup was the thar using?

Re: Offroading excursion with the Offroad Club of Gujarat (OCG)

Sunday morning well spent!
Great report! super cool pics! a very capable vehicle!
I can understand your frustration and the "Kitni hawa nikalun" part was epic!

If your wheels spin, ease off the throttle and slow the tyres to regain traction.
If you need to park in sand, do so on a downward slope. This will help you when you pull away.

All the best for all your future events! Keep posting progress!!!
