A Jeep stuck on a hiking trail

Did someone see this? A Jeep stuck in a hiking trail.

Off-roading alone is rarely a good idea, and that's especially true when you're driving somewhere outside of your comfort zone. With no one to yank you from a rut or, worse yet, pull you out of your rig if things get tippy, you're asking for trouble. It looks like a California Jeeper learned this for themselves sometime in the past few days as their mostly stock Wrangler now sits abandoned atop a highline hiking trail.

Damning photos of the four-door Jeep were posted to the Hemet Eye News Facebook group and almost immediately shared a thousand times over. There's little context to go off of, but it's clear to see the—ahem—adventurous wheelman decided they'd had enough of the narrow trail. With a steep dropoff looming no matter what route they took and the passenger side hanging toward a rocky ravine, giving up was definitely the best choice they made that day.

Is this for real? Saying this because it looks just like in the game GTA5 whose photo I took last week :

My thoughts exactly.
I zoomed into the image. Didn't see any tyre tracks on what appears to be a soft topsoil.

Exactly my thoughts. Looks like in this case the game graphics were better than "real life".

Whats next for that Wrangler now?

Although those game pics look very similar, this is definitely a true story

A video of the rescue available here at this Instagram profile

Also more pics of the Jeep stuck at the top is available at this original source of the news.

Must be really dumb to attempt this and get stuck at such a high point. Thankfully they had the brains to stop and get support.

You bet! I could not believe when I saw that photo primarily because I had attempted to do exactly the same with the Jeep in GTA5 but it didn't have enough power to ascend. When it used to slide to the edge it used to have a free fall. This car meanwhile was successful in reaching to the top.

I wondered who would do this in real life but here we are!

Was instantly reminded of this. People should tread before venturing out on their 4X4's at places where they are not sure of surface. Else, you would be viral [maybe, some people enjoy this].

Wow!
So it's actually true!

Would love to hear from our seasoned off roaders.
Is such a situation possible or did the driver invite trouble with over enthusiasm or sheer stupidity?

I remember the seasoned off-roader and fellow member Arka (handle "ex670c") saying once - "a 4x4 will get you a bit further before you get stuck". That kind of humility from a seasoned off-roader should tell us what's what with 4x4 vehicles, especially when we don't know where we take our vehicles (e.g., sand/mud/quicksand?)

Things like this wouldn't come as a surprise if you guys followed Matt's Off Road Recovery on Youtube. Most of his videos are of saving normal people stuck in a bit of sand or mud but there have been similar instances as well. Not something this extreme probably but very close. Don't know how I came across that channel but like watching his simple videos. This is one of the more difficult rescues he did.
